Today 20th September 2026 we are happy to celebrate the 7th #worldiridiumflare day! In this day of 1997 the Belgian amateur astronomer Chris Dorreman took the first picture ever of a -8 magnitude #iridiumflare ( featured as NASA APOD: apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap980402.… ) #flarewell
🎉 8 YEARS OF CATCH THE IRIDIUM 🎉
What started in 2018 to preserve Iridium Flares became a global collaboration of astrophotographers & skywatchers.
Thanks to everyone who contributed, shared, or followed the journey — this archive exists because of you. 🚀✨ #CatchTheIridium
6 years ago the Catch The Iridium adventure began ! How long do you miss raising your eyes to the sky to watch the spectacle of our beloved flares? 🎂🍾 #flarewell #catchtheiridium #iridiumflares
Today is a sad day: unfortunately we learned that Rod Sladen died peacefully in 02-2022 (73). Rod helped us a lot for #catchtheiridium project by reconstructing the Constellation Status (rod.sladen.org.uk/iridium.ht…) precisely. Farewell Mr Sladen and thanks for everithing 😢🛰️

One of my first captures of an #IridiumFlare was the only shot I ever got of SV98 on 18 June 2018. What a joy that was! It was a –2.8mag. 🤩❤️🛰✨ I hope Twitter compression doesn't wipe it out.

My contribution to #WorldIridiumFlareDay is my photo of Iridium 14 flaring over the Eiffel Tower, Paris back in 2018. It was a lovely warm June evening and the view from the Pont de Bir-Hakeim was amazing @iramollay @catchtheiridium
