I've been keeping a scorecard for Mamdani and there are both good things you never heard of and a fair number of unfinished/stalled programs and some put off to the "bright future". Tell me what I missed. Here's my new Substack therunoff.substack.com/p/cop…

Vivek Ramaswamy’s ad is apparently unprecedented. It would be just awful to activate all the members of a politician’s family to attack them…as the Democrats did with every member of RFK’s family. youtube.com/watch?v=ww9fTNrW…

Acton's mother has been estranged from her daughter for 48 years because she sided with her husband (Acton's stepfather) when Acton reported that her stepfather had sexually assaulted her. That is different than RFK Jr.'s family, whose criticism of RFK Jr is focused on policy. dispatch.com/story/news/loc…

This is something every web site in the known universe had to deal with today, including even me on my little site but if their devs couldn't quickly download the new widely-available security patch in their situation, maybe there's more to this.
The Moscow Times’ website has been taken offline temporarily as a precaution following reports of critical vulnerabilities in PHP, the programming language used by many websites. We are working to restore access as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

🛑Israeli actress is taking Francesca Albanese to court. Israeli actress and model Sarai Givaty has filed a NIS 500,000 defamation lawsuit against Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian territories. According to the lawsuit, Albanese shared a 23-second clip from a 2025 interview, presented without its full context, and compared Givaty’s remarks to arguments used by Nazi officials to justify the murder of children during the Holocaust. Givaty says she never called for children to be killed. She was discussing the dangers of extremism and the radicalization of children. Albanese’s post reportedly reached more than two million views. Givaty says she subsequently received death threats and suffered damage to her reputation and career. Think about that. A UN official used her international platform to make a devastating comparison involving an Israeli woman, without presenting the full context of her remarks. Givaty is now fighting back in court. Holding a UN position does not place anyone above accountability. Accusations this serious demand evidence, context, and responsibility. Source: N12 :Yael Yafeh Photo: Heli Friedman , N12

When you praise a mass murderer as a 'humanitarian,' you become complicit in his crimes. You insult the memory of the victims of the destruction of Grozny, Aleppo, Mariupol. You gaslight the women raped in Bucha. You mock the families of stolen Ukrainian children. You show that you share the same nihilistic universe as the perpetrator of these atrocities.
Steve Witkoff to Putin: You talk so much about my president, President Trump, being a humanitarian. You are a humanitarian also, sir, and I salute that, I commend you, and I thank you again.

I remember that article. And how infuriating it was in tone (patronising) and content (error-strewn)
Digging in the archives of The Atlantic, I found this gem from 2002. "The Baltics are knocking at NATO's door. Don't let them in" Talk about aged like milk... theatlantic.com/magazine/arc…

Just looking at these 5 ballot questions, I ask "Did the construction lobby get to Mamdani after the hotel lobby was through him and got theirs last year, on last year's back-of-the-ballot giveaways?" Let me read the article, however. gothamist.com/news/ballot-qu…

Anthropic will be very surprised to learn that the US government can’t direct a private company to make or not make particular decisions.
Replying to @lrozen
Rubio: “The important point is we cannot direct a private company as to the decisions they make or not make.  What I can tell you with certainty is the President of the United States nor anyone in our system ever requested that any changes to that system be made, and that’s what we said repeatedly.”

So that gives his boss the right to torture the country now for a percentage for his friends and family.
⚡️ Rubio says Ukraine wouldn't exist today without the US "We're no longer going to be defensive about this topic, okay?" the US Secretary of State told reporters in a visibly irritated tone, stressing that Ukraine would not exist as a sovereign state without American assistance. According to Rubio, the US has provided Ukraine with billions of dollars in aid, starting under the Biden administration and continuing under Trump. At the same time, Rubio acknowledged the bravery of Ukrainian soldiers, who have "very bravely fought for their country" against a much larger nation. What?..

Trump has provided no new aid Trump after he took office. Biden provided €30B a year. 29 countries have put $6.7B into PURL to buy US weapons, which supply about 95% of Ukraine's Patriot interceptors. US refuses to supply them. kielinstitut.de/media/news/eur… assets.ctfassets.net/mj324dykhxwi/4… defence-industry.eu/ukraine-says-p… statista.com/chart/35554/mi…

The late Vladimir Bukovsky once articulated the proper way to talk to Putin, should you have to: “The KGB are a particular species that don’t understand the word no. You can’t compromise with them and they won’t genuinely seek to compromise with you. An opponent’s attempts at compromise are viewed as weakness and you will cause immense grief for yourself if you don’t tell them off. If you don’t, they will press harder until they get you to work for them. For the KGB, you are either their agent or their enemy — there is nothing in between. So what you have to do is look Putin straight in the eyes and tell him to go you know where. That’s it.”
Which is worse, the strategic stupidity of rewarding a murderous dictator with billions of dollars for taking American hostages, or a US envoy groveling before him? As usual in these US-Russia “negotiations," Putin gets everything he wants and gives up nothing he cares about.

PS. The main reason why you feel safer in Vilnius, Riga, Tallinn than you do in London, Paris, Berlin is probably the ethnic composition. You would feel safer in Moscow as well.

Look what snowflakes these people are. Witkoff could have said “thank you.” He called Putin a “humanitarian” days after his drone murdered a baby in her stroller, and the baby’s mother. Tweet through the universal condemnation, though—that’ll help.
Should the Special Envoy have insulted the man, imperiled the release of an American citizen, and torched any possibility of finally resolving a war that has gone on for far too long? These things are complicated. This is why you’re not a negotiator.

Indeed. The biggest change to Starlink usage in the war recently was turning it off for the Russians—something Musk agreed to do at the request of Fedorov. This is punitive without cause.
This argument is clearly the talking point, but doesn’t make any sense. Ukraine has not been using Starlink any differently now than it was a week ago. Nor is it plausible that SpaceX has suddenly learnt of some new and illicit use case in that period
