All kinds of retribution. He'll try to put you on a bad committee where you have no leverage. He'll make sure no money goes to your district. He'll make sure your legislation never gets a floor vote and will work to block others from co-sponsoring it.
Basically, he'll try to make you a pariah in Congress. So I understand why new members would be afraid to go against him! But flip side is - anyone who does do it will be an instant hero nationally and can use that popular power to overcome whatever retribution Jeffries does.
Replying to @saikatc
Serious question: could you explain the “risk” of coming out in opposition to Jeffries?

Tell every Palestinian that is suffering there that caring about someone’s stance on Palestine is a luxury.

Make Ayanna Pressley the first Black female speaker. She isn’t captured by the interests of Wall Street or Jared Kushner. She’s a coalition builder and has been a spokesperson for The Squad. Ayanna is the embodiment of where our party is headed and what our legislative priorities should be for working-class Americans.
Problem solved!
If journalists like Courtney weren’t reporting from Lebanon we wouldn’t know that Israel is still killing people and demolishing homes.
Because legacy media doesn’t care.

Imagine having a sick mother living in these unbearable conditions, surrounded by water and exposed to the freezing winter cold. Imagine what it means to know that your mother is suffering like this, and that you can do so little to protect her.

Gaza emergency services issue urgent call as winter downpours submerge displacement camps
——
Gaza’s civil defense agency issued an urgent appeal for international mobilization on Saturday after a severe winter storm swept through the enclave, submerging entire displacement camps and destroying makeshift shelters housing hundreds of thousands of forcibly displaced Palestinians.
Emergency crews reported receiving over 1,500 distress calls across the Gaza Strip as torrential rain and strong winds swept away makeshift canvas tents and brought floodwaters inside temporary shelters.
The agency warned that civil defense personnel are unable to manage the compounding crisis due to the deliberate Israeli blockade preventing the entry of heavy machinery, water pumps, fuel, and replacement shelter supplies.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, the civil defense director stressed that women and children are currently stranded in flooded camps as floodwaters drown encampments and destroy family belongings.
Humanitarian groups emphasize that the catastrophe is a direct consequence of ongoing Israeli restrictions on basic relief materials and infrastructure rehabilitation following months of widespread destruction, leaving over 90 percent of Gaza's population exposed to severe winter weather in dilapidated and unsealed shelters.
💔
I don’t know. It feels obscenely stupid to start posting videos of my loved ones in Gaza right now, as their tents flood with rainwater in the middle of the night, as they sleep in damp clothes on soaked mattresses, and to think for a f*cking second that these images might move someone to save their babies, to protect what little dignity they have left.
As if this time could be any different from last year, or the year before that, or the year before that.
As if people around the world, especially those with the power to do something, might suddenly be moved by a family’s tent flooding with rainwater when the sight of hundreds of babies whose bodies were shredded by Israeli bombs was not enough to put an end to this.
How many more times must we expose the suffering of the people we love, strip them of their privacy in their most vulnerable moments, in the desperate hope that someone, somewhere, might finally care enough to act?

the genocidal Israeli occupation regime played a key role in destroying Syria, funneling weapons and funds to ISIS who were also treated in Israeli hospitals. Now Zionists are pointing to the death and destruction they caused in Syria as evidence they're being humane in Gaza

Anyone who calls being against genocide a “purity test” is straight up evil. If you can’t stand up to genocide as a representative, you definitely won’t stand up for your constituents.
AOC TELLS THE LEFT TO ABANDON PURITY TESTS, LIKE GAZA
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez built her political career challenging the Democratic establishment, promising a new era of progressive politics and accountability. But a New York Times profile portrays a politician increasingly embracing party alliances while encouraging the left to move beyond ideological “purity tests,” almost gaslighting her supporters.
Among the scathing rhetoric is how divisions over Isr*el's war in G*za and the g*nocide are portrayed and diminished by AOC. To many of her critics and supporters, it seems that questions about P*lestinian rights and accountability are being dismissed as political obstacles rather than fundamental principles.
AOC's own voting record has fueled those criticisms. In 2021, she voted “present” rather than opposing an additional $1 billion in funding for Isr*el's Iron Dome mis*ile defence system. In 2025, she voted against an amendment that would have eliminated roughly $500 million in Iron Dome funding, arguing that defensive systems should be distinguished from offensive weapons.
The Democratic Socialists of America even withdrew its national endorsement of AOC in 2024, citing disagreements over P*lestine and her failure to meet several conditions, including opposition to all military funding for Isr*el.
Although AOC has since pledged to oppose all future U.S. military aid to Isr*el, including Iron Dome, her evolving positions continue to raise questions about the relationship between progressive movements and the political establishment, especially when progressives like her, Zohran Mamdani and Abdul El-Sayed, seem to be moving closer to establishment politicians like Obama.
As both major parties face criticism over corporate influence, foreign policy, and their inability to deliver meaningful economic change, voters are left wondering if this even matters, if anything will fundamentally change. It appears not much has.
