BATUK: BRITAIN'S COLONIAL GRIP IN KENYA BATUK: The White Man’s Burden in Kenya is not just a documentary about a British military base where soldiers roll around in the dirt for six months before returning home to the UK. It is a documentary about abuse of power, occupation of indigenous land and the unfinished business of colonialism. For decades, ordinary Kenyans living around BATUK have raised allegations of abuse, sexual violence, ecological destruction and impunity, while one of the world’s most powerful former colonial powers continues to operate freely on Kenyan soil, handing out small amounts of compensation whenever evidence of alleged crimes reaches the media. At the centre of the documentary is the story of Agnes Wanjiru, a 21-year-old Kenyan woman who was tortured, killed and dumped in a septic tank, while British soldiers mocked and ridiculed her death on social media. One soldier posed in front of the septic tank and posted, “If you know, you know.” Others joked about the five-month-old daughter she left behind, posting imagery of a baby beside a gravesite. But the story goes beyond Agnes and her tragic killing and the shocking behaviour of British troops thereafter. The documentary asks deeper questions: How did Britain maintain a military presence in Kenya, the very same year the country supposedly gained independence? Why are foreign troops still training on stolen land while local communities continue to suffer? And above all, why does the Kenyan government allow all of this? Laikipia County, currently in the spotlight because of plans for an Ebola quarantine facility for US citizens, is the very same county where the BATUK military base is headquartered. This documentary helps connect the dots about why Kenya’s political elite remain so willing to cede sovereignty to foreign powers like Britain, and why they may be willing to do the same again with the United States. IBRAHIM TRAORÉ CALLS FOR PATRIOTISM OVER INDIVIDUALISM Burkina Faso's president, Ibrahim Traoré, is calling on his citizens to return to traditional values, not the backwards, conservative values the West often romanticises as 'traditional'. Instead, Traoré appeals to positive African values such as collectivism, humanism, and egalitarianism. Kwame Nkrumah, Pan-African leader and first president of Ghana, once identified these very values as the basis of what he called 'the revolutionary African personality.' He insisted that these values should form the basis for constructing socialism and African unity. Today President Traoré upholds these values, vehemently rejecting individualism, a value rooted in the global capitalist and imperialist system, in favour of collectivism, reflective of Africa's long communal history. Traoré recognises that Western leaders do not recognise African states as legitimate sovereign entities, but he rejects playing the game they set up according to their rules of exploitative competition. Instead, he insists that Burkina Faso's collectivism, expressed as patriotism, will be the homeland's saving grace.

CLARE DALY DEMANDS FREEDOM FOR FERGIE CHAMBERS Irish politician and Former Member of the European Parliament Clare Daly has called for the freedom of imprisoned philanthropist Fergie Chambers, who is being held in Spanish prison at the behest of the Trump administration. Chambers has given millions of dollars to pro-P*lestine humanitarian causes that have fed thousands in G*za, saving countless lives. Chambers' supporters and legal team argue that the United States, through pursuing Chambers, is attempting to punish sending humanitarian aid to P*lestine and will set a dangerous precedent.

A Thread👇🏿 Indonesians took to the streets to protest government negligence this past weekend, after months of toxic smoke from wildfires have left people with health issues and even k*lled others. For months, residents of Kalimantan, Sumatra, and Papua have faced continuous exposure to toxic smoke from forest and land fires that have endangered their health and lives. This has driven a sharp rise in acute respiratory infections (ARI). As of 21 October 2026, Indonesia’s Ministry of Health recorded a cumulative 333,470 ARI cases in the affected areas: 258,298 among people over age five and 75,172 among children aged 0–5. Media reports confirm that at least five children in Sumatra and Kalimantan have d*ed from acute respiratory complications linked to the haze. Most of the people impacted by the fires are left to contend with the harmful effects themselves, due to limited access to government-provided free healthcare, poor communities, particularly peasants, workers, and Indigenous peoples. The fires have also strained civil infrastructure and services, with firefighters struggling to control the blaze with little (if any) state support. Schools have been forced to suspend in-person classes. Activists say the fires have disrupted children’s right to a safe, adequate education. The fires have also increased the financial burden on families, who must cover the costs of home-based learning. Communities and activists have also raised the alarm about corporations' role in burning the land. Activists report that 85,000 hectares across 335 corporate concessions in Sumatra and Kalimantan have burned, raising concerns about corporate responsibility. Many companies involved are in the oil palm and forestry sectors, including Malaysian and Singaporean firms. This, combined with state negligence, has triggered widespread protests calling for the fires to be declared a national disaster. The organisations have urged people in Indonesia and around the world to stand in solidarity with affected communities and amplify calls for urgent, decisive government action.

Hardcore Punk band Turnstile has raised over $200,000 in humanitarian aid from their benefit concert at the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. The concert flyer states that the money raised will be raised for Human Concern International and split evenly for relief efforts in P*lestine, Lebanon, and Sudan. The daytime concert drew over 60,000 attendees and was within earshot of the White House. Between songs, chants of "Free P*lestine" filled the air as the band delivered a high-energy, historic performance. Turnstile joins a growing list of artists and performers who join the P*lestine solidarity movement, taking it a step further and playing right in the heart of the financiers of the G*za g*nocide.

Is Brinksman the new Manning or Snowden, exposing government cover-ups and failure in its bid to overthrow a sovereign country - and exposing a foreign country's influence over U.S. decision-makers? Brinksman is set to appear before court on Tuesday, October 27th. Under the Whistleblowers Protection Act, Brinksman may have certain protections, but the history of repression targeting whistleblowers like Edward Snowden, Chelsea Manning, and others means the state is unlikely to stop its course regardless of protections.

BRAZIL ERUPTS AS LULA DEFEATS BOLSONARO Brazil’s leftist President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva staged a remarkable political comeback, defeating far-right candidate Flávio Bolsonaro to secure a historic fourth term, sparking mass celebrations nationwide. With 100% of votes counted, the 80-year-old Lula secured 51.79% against Bolsonaro’s 48.21%, winning by approximately 4.4 million votes. The victory marks an unprecedented reversal in Brazil’s modern democratic history. After narrowly losing the first round earlier this month, Lula became the first presidential candidate since the end of the military dictatorship in the 1980s to overturn a first-round defeat and win the run-off. But allegations of interference by US technology giant Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, overshadowed the election. Lula’s campaign accused the company of favouring Bolsonaro through its algorithms, amplifying right-wing content while restricting pro-Lula material, including allegedly limiting the reach of Lula’s official Facebook page. Meta denied deliberately favouring either candidate. Bolsonaro’s campaign also faced allegations of electoral misconduct, including the use of AI-generated material targeting Lula, some of which Brazil’s electoral court ordered removed. Despite the controversies, Lula emerged victorious. Bolsonaro, however, refused to concede defeat and demanded that the election results be annulled. Meanwhile, an estimated one million Lula supporters reportedly flooded São Paulo’s iconic Avenida Paulista on Sunday night, turning the streets into a sea of celebration, with fireworks, music and crowds cheering the result. For Lula, who was imprisoned in 2018 on corruption charges widely criticised as politically motivated before his convictions were annulled, the victory marks another extraordinary chapter in a political career that has taken him from working-class trade union leader to a historic fourth term as Brazil’s president.

Corporate & Foreign Policy Interests From big tech to the pro-Israel lobby, special interests are pouring in millions. Cryptocurrency giants Coinbase and Ripple have contributed $57.8 million and $49.6 million, respectively, largely to pro-crypto political committees. Meanwhile, AIPAC and its affiliated super PAC, United Democracy Project, are backing candidates aligned with their foreign-policy priorities. The super PAC has spent more than $50 million on independent expenditures this cycle.

When Elite Money is Unlimited, Do Voters Have Any Power? Dark-money nonprofits add another layer of influence, letting wealthy contributors fund political operations without publicly revealing their identities. In this cycle, Republican-aligned One Nation contributed $133 million, while Democratic-aligned Majority Forward gave $102 million to political committees. The result is a political system in which billionaires and powerful organisations can amplify their interests on a scale ordinary Americans cannot match.
