My sister went to Waitrose on Sunday in Mill Hill East and there was a veteran called Fred selling poppies. She went to buy one for him and as it was chilly outside asked to buy him a coffee to warm him up. In conversation she heard from him how he has been spat at, called a racist and a warmonger … all for selling poppies to remember our most brave and fallen heroes. It broke my heart. What has become of this country? Where is the gratitude to those that lay down their lives so we could be free? Where has pride in our country gone?
I’ve been there every day since in the hope of seeing him, but as yet, Fred hasn’t returned.

I've been out all week and I've barely seen one.
No tray at the supermarket. No tin at the station. Nobody standing in the cold with a box and a smile.
But my usual fella was there. Full regalia, medals on, exactly where he always is. I told him I was glad to see him. He probably thinks nobody notices.
We do, mate. We notice.
The Royal British Legion is crying out for volunteers. Suffolk could lose £18,000. Some towns can't even find an organiser.
Why?
Because for years the poppy has been sneered at as political, and people have quietly stopped. Now there's nobody left to hold the tin and especially this year after the leftie smear campaign against the poppy.
Those old men stood in the rain for forty years so we wouldn't forget their mates. The least we owe them is an hour in the cold.
Wear a poppy. Put more in the tin. Volunteer if you can.

Russia has finished using the civilians in Oleshky as human shields. They will now be relocated further into the occupied territories with this Administration’s blessing. Children will be vanished into Russia as gifts for oligarchs. Women who survive the rapes in the filtration camps will be sent to Siberia to work in military industries. Men will be shot if they have the slightest connection to the Ukrainian military, or if purely civilians, put into Russian prison camps to be tortured around the clock until they are eventually traded for well-fed, well-cared-for Russian POWs captured while committing war crimes in Ukraine.

Imagine if politicians were completely honest standing before voters and saying:
“We intend to bring millions of people from the developing world into your country. And here is what we expect that to mean for you.
Some of your women will be raped. Some of your fellow citizens will be murdered. Some will be robbed. Some will watch their neighbourhoods change beyond recognition, while others will be priced out of the suburbs they spent a lifetime working to afford.
Oh, and quite a few churches will be burned. And all of that is before the riots. Some shops will be smashed during the ensuing riots. Some statues will be toppled by people who apparently came here to escape backward societies but have brought a few of their less attractive habits with them.
Your taxes will rise to pay for additional housing, schools, hospitals, policing and welfare. Housing will become scarcer and infrastructure will struggle to keep pace. Jews will be targeted. And social cohesion generally will be tested like never before.
And when you complain about any of this, we will explain that your concerns are xenophobic, your expectations unreasonable and your nostalgia for a recognisable country vaguely fascist.”
