**Nigeria’s money supply since independence. 🇳🇬**
In 1960, Nigeria’s monetary system was measured in millions.
Today, broad money is measured in **trillions of naira.**
But what does that actually mean?
In Part 1 of our new series, we look at **M1, M2 and M3** and trace how Nigeria’s money supply has evolved from independence to today.
This is bigger than a chart.
It’s the beginning of a much bigger question:
**What happened to Nigeria’s money, prices, economy and purchasing power over the last 66 years?**
We’re going to find out.
**Part 1 — Nigeria’s Money Supply Since Independence.**

🇿🇼 ZIMBABWE’S INFLATION FALLS BELOW 🇺🇸 US AND 🇬🇧 UK AFTER ADOPTING HARD MONEY
Zimbabwe’s annual inflation fell to 2.9% in August, below the UK at 3.1% and the US at 3.4%.
The milestone is mind-blowing for a country synonymous with hyperinflation.
In 2008, Zimbabwe’s inflation spiraled so far out of control that prices were roughly doubling every 24 hours, culminating in the infamous 100 trillion Zimbabwe dollar banknote.
Zimbabwe introduced the gold and foreign-reserve-backed ZiG currency in 2024.

Every Bitcoin tracker shows you the dollar price. None of them show what Bitcoin actually costs in Lagos, where the official naira rate and the street rate are two different numbers.
@citrusrate fixes that. Live Bitcoin prices in 41 African currencies, official and black market side by side, built by @malkrite a Nigerian engineer who knows the parallel market isn't a footnote, it's the real rate.
It also tracks inflation, money supply, and FX reserves priced in Bitcoin, and ranks currencies by how fast they're losing ground to it. Developers can pull any rate over an API, or pay per lookup with Lightning, from 50 sats.

Happy New Month and Happy Nigeria Independence Day.
With collaborative custody, you share responsibility for securing your Bitcoin across multiple keys or people.
Community custody takes a different approach. A group of trusted Guardians collectively holds the keys on behalf of a community.
But how does it work, and where does it fit within the broader collaborative custody model?
Our latest article explores both approaches, their differences, and how @fedimint makes community custody possible. The link is in the thread.

This really kept me wondering how people are working, earning and securing the future of their loved ones.
I still need verification from a South Sudan citizen.
For an investment, the profit gains must be above 59%
Can we have such a rate to preserve our capital?

After B4C Day 1, where we discussed the effects of inflation on the economy, @altradits checked @citrusrate and came across South Sudan’s inflation update.

Most of the Bitcoin-in-Africa conversation is Anglophone. At Bitcoin Mastermind we were blown away by how quietly Francophone Africa is building its own revolution.
Bitcoin Mastermind (@btcmastermind_) ran its sixth edition in Cotonou, Benin. Three days, one rule: Bitcoin only, no altcoins. A dev day, adoption panels, a hackathon final, and the Benin culture experience.
Founded by @Loicbtc and @mehounme, two of the earliest Bitcoin builders in the country. Same team behind @btcflashxyz, a gateway that lets anyone accept and use Bitcoin, and @BitcoinBenin, the community that runs it.
Here's what stuck with me. In a region tied to the CFA franc, Bitcoin isn't a bet. It's a savings tool, a remittance rail, a way to build without waiting on Paris or Brussels to sign off.
Shoutout to the communities present at Bitcoin Mastermind 2026. It was amazing to connect with y'all: @HopeWithBTC, @Bitcoin_Burkina, @BitcoinAnambra, @Togo_Bitcoin, Satoshi Coffee, @btcafriquefr, @citrusrate, @KidsBitcoin, and builders like @BouhariMou2199 and many others.
Francophone Africa is building its own Bitcoin infrastructure.
Please join @Modibe_, @frankcorva , and @vryfokkenou on Thursday, 10 September, at 9am ET.
They’ll be discussing how @fedimint is used within the @BitcoinEkasi community and beyond in South Africa.
Be sure to tune in!
