A new environment variable removes the last safeguard in bypassPermissions mode, a block on deleting critical paths like the home directory.
- Anthropic’s Claude Code v2.1.311 supports a new variable that lets the agent delete critical paths without approval, according to The Register.
- Before this, bypassPermissions mode still blocked rm and rmdir commands aimed at critical paths and denied them if no one approved within two minutes.
- Anthropic’s Daisy Hollman announced the change. The update wasn’t listed in the changelog, and she told doubtful users, “Not a joke!”

The UI for this is more simple and minimalist then the actual Claude Desktop app
