Missions depends upon the strength of the rope holders
I care deeply about missions. But we won’t be able to do missions well if we lose ourselves. The Great Commission is not optional. Christ has all authority in heaven and on earth, and the church must make disciples of all nations. Some must go, others must send, and all of us must care. Yet if American Christians neglect our homes, churches, communities, and nation in the name of caring for the nations, we weaken the conditions that make missionary sending possible. Missionaries need churches to train and support them, strong families and communities to sustain them, and a stable nation from which to serve. When a country is consumed by disorder, poverty, conflict, or war, its people turn inward and its resources are redirected toward survival. This is not an argument against missions, but for the strength and peace that help make missions possible. Healthy families, faithful churches, fruitful vocations, ordered households, and a stable nation provide an earthly foundation for obedience to the Great Commission. Andrew Fuller, William Carey, and the early Baptist missionary movement understood that love of one’s own land and people need not conflict with universal benevolence. Properly ordered, it can strengthen it. So yes, I want missionaries sent to the ends of the earth. I want Christ proclaimed where He is not known and churches planted among every tribe and tongue. Precisely because I want that, I want America recovered—not as an idol, an ultimate hope, or a substitute for Christ’s kingdom, but as a people, place, and inheritance we are responsible to steward before God for the sake of our children, churches, neighbors, and the nations to whom we owe the gospel.

FAITH IN ACTION: Southern Baptist Convention president fires back at calls for pastors to stay out of politics, urging Christian leaders to 'step up' ahead of midterm elections. Willy Rice argues that abortion, marriage, gender identity and immigration are deeply theological issues that demand a pastoral voice in the public square. Rice says the political and theological left never withdrew from politics — and that their silence created a vacuum conservative Christians are now paying for. A really excellent interview with @WillyRice and @albertmohler. A call for an SBC that is clearly convictional, transparent and responsive to SBC churches, and that bounds pragmatism with sound doctrine. This is the right direction for an SBC that endures for the future. youtube.com/watch?v=IhwPVxCu…

What a breath of fresh air to hear this from an SBC president
President Willy Rice delivered a powerful message to the SBC's Executive Committee last night. An important part of it were his remarks about the "Truth and Unity Amendment" concerning the pastoral office. I encourage you to listen to all of his remarks about the amendment in the video below. Here's a highlight: "The lesson of our evangelical and Reformation history is clear. The threat of doctrinal drift is real, and you never drift anywhere worth going. I know there is a ditch on both sides of the road, but the ditch on one side is a chasm. And at the bottom of that chasm are the bones of a thousand gospel movements and institutions that were once vibrant and strong, but they are now empty institutional shells, tragic monuments to a once-great past. Which is why I believe the Truth and Unity Amendment is so important, and why I believe it is critical for Southern Baptists to pass this amendment next year in Indianapolis." @WillyRice @SBCExecComm

Twenty-five years ago, our Nation changed forever. But September 11 is remembered not only for what we lost, but for what we found: unity, love, courage, & an unshakable patriotism. God bless America. 🇺🇸

This is what we build. Little cities on a hill, a small oasis in a desert, a golden age in the home. The Christian family. Then we multiply it through the local church all across this nation. If our government is to care for the good of it’s people, this is what it protects, fosters, and helps enable.

This morning at church, we commissioned and prayed for a couple leaving this week to go to the nations with @IMB_SBC. Watching their journey has been incredible. The missionary force of the SBC is both exhilarating and humbling—to see people leave home with all its security and comforts, separated by long distances, and sell their possessions—all to share Christ in areas of tremendous lostness. This particular couple, with four small children, reduced their lives down to fourteen suitcases! Hearing how well IMB supports them in every way imaginable is one reason I'm proud to be a Southern Baptist.

This incredible. Patterns don’t have to be repeated. Jesus can restore and renew in a single generation. Dads who didn’t have good dads: you can do this thru the power of the Holy Spirit.

One thing that stands out in @JDVance’s book and public comments about his return to faith is how the social capital of Christian witness and community offered a better alternative to the secular-striver mentality—a mentality he saw leading only to a nihilistic abyss. I expect we will see more conversions happen in precisely this way: people will encounter a community practicing the Way, and they will discover that the Way is simply humanity as it was meant to be lived: Real, present, disarming love, incarnate, social, joyful, abundantly rich family life, extolling work and vocation, ennobling beauty, etc. Ordinary faithfulness has radical implications in a world suffering under the deracinating effects of secular progressivism.

To know the Bible is to know America’s own grammar and our own story, while to forget it is to mistake our inheritance for an accident of history. To forbid it is to raise a generation fluent in everything but the moral requirements that birthed our nation in the first place. wng.org/opinions/the-bible-a…
