"Why do authors care so much about kudos and comments?"How many times have YOU passed on a fic with few kudos/comments?How often do YOU use those to decide whether something is worth reading? Engagement matters when it benefits you,but authors are suddenly needy for wanting it

Writers DO write for the love of it.They create stories spend hours writing and share them FOR FREE so YOU can enjoy them. And this is how you treat them? You expect endless free content while acting lik leaving a kudos or a comment is some outrageous demand? The fucking entitlement

Fandom→community of fans Community→people interacting, sharing, discussing, creating, engaging. You cannot expect a community to thrive when you consume everything it produces but refuse to interact, offer feedback, show appreciation. That's not community. That's just consumption

"OH NO! A WHOLE MONTH WITHOUT AO3! WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO????" Maybe try treating the authors who make the content you consume like actual human beings. Just a thought.

Netflix has a download button too. Does that mean you have permission to download a movie and redistribute it on another platform? No. Because downloading something for personal use and redistributing someone else's work are two entirely different things.

This whole AO3 disaster has really exposed how many people don't understand consent, don't care to understand it, and are somehow incredibly proud of that. What an embarrassing hill to die on.

Authors: please respect my wishes Readers: consent? Nah we don't do that

AO3's own TOS/FAQ explicitly says you need the creator's permission to repost their work, even with credit

The fact that people who don't understand the difference between public access and consent to redistribute someone else's work are the loudest in this conversation is almost ironic. But then you look at the bio and suddenly the lack of understanding makes a little more sense 😭

You keep arguing that authors consented because they posted their work publicly, but that's not how consent works. They consented to publishing on a specific platform, under specific terms. They did not give every internet user unrestricted permission to redistribute their writin

Accessibility is not authorization. Free is not public domain. And not making money doesn't mean an author forfeits their rights

It's funny how people will complain that authors should be grateful anyone reads their free work, but the moment authors ask for basic respect, consent, and acknowledgment, suddenly they're asking for too much. You cannot demand free content while dismissing the people creating

A download button is there so readers can download a copy for their own reading. It is not a redistribution licence. The existence of a technical feature doesn't grant you legal permission to use it however you want. A little media literacy goes a long way.

The entitlement is honestly baffling. Authors spend hours, days, sometimes months writing stories for free, and somehow people have convinced themselves that they're owed those stories in whatever format, on whatever platform. You're readers, not owners. Act accordingly.

You seem to confuse being given access to someone's work with being given ownership of it.Two very different things. An author sharing a story with readers is not handing over the rights to do whatever you please with it. Read it, enjoy it, leave kudos, leave comments.Don't steal
