How to be both antisemitic and also not ask the basic question of why all those Jewish ppl sought sanctuary in Israel. The nations they called home for millennia expelled or drove them out. Proving exactly why Jewish ppl need a State for protection.

Back in August, an Irishman in a French hypermarket struck up a friendly chat with two Australian tourists about a football shirt. Then, the conversation turned to Ireland’s stance on Israel. Minutes later, he told the woman, a Jew whose relatives were murdered at Auschwitz, that he’d "put a f***ing bullet in [her] head."
Last week, an Avignon court convicted Patrick O’Brien, a 60-year-old originally from Dublin, of death threats aggravated by antisemitism and of attempting to justify crimes against humanity. According to the couple, he also told them he was sorry Hitler hadn’t “finished the job.” The Irish Independent’s report omits that detail, choosing instead to quote O'Brien's description of himself as a “committed humanist.”
In Ireland, we are told constantly that criticism of Israel has nothing to do with hostility to Jews. We see how quickly that distinction collapses in practice. A general argument about state policy quickly became a targeted death threat against a Jew. And when police searched O'Brien's home, they found what the prosecutor called further evidence “of a racist nature.” Israel didn’t create O'Brien's bigotry. It allowed him to express it under the familiar veneer of the moral crusader, the "committed humanist."
Last night 13,000 people filled the 3Arena for a "Free Palestine" Macklemore concert that within minutes devolved into an anti-Israel hate rally. Our culture now regards hostility to Israel as a civic virtue, but we should ask how far it is from threatening actual violence to the small number of Jews who live here.

I see Patrick O'Brien told the French Court he was a "committed humanist" which, in my experience, is often code for "insufferably rude in general".
Patrick, the Irish man who told a Jewish woman that he wish Hitler had finished the job, has been convicted of condoning crimes against humanity and of making death threats.
Remember all the people here accusing the Jewish victim of using the name Paddy as a slur, well now we know she was telling the truth the whole time. Assuming she was lying in the first place is clear racism against Jews. But unfortunately I highly doubt most of them will be doing any introspection on the matter.

Absolutely mortified to see the Irish flag bastardised like this.

Patrick O'B who hurled antisemitic abuse, including a death threat at a Jewish couple in a supermarket in France has just been handed a 6 month suspended prison sentence and a fine.
This is a much heftier punishment than many may think. Forget the 'suspended' part for a moment. If he makes any similar threatening statement he will go to prison and this may apply to him for the rest of his life.
He how has a criminal record which disqualifies him from travelling to a number of countries including the U.S.A. It may also affect his credit rating and his ability to apply for a whole range of jobs in the public sector.
If he is an individual with no experience of the criminal justice system and who has hitherto had an unblemished record, this sentence will be deeply shocking to him. In the end, the only defence against the tide of threatening and casual antisemitic abuse is the application of the law. Such abuse can never be cost free.

Good to see that sometimes antisemitism is punished.

And there we have it, folks.
The Irishman who went viral for threatening a Jewish couple French supermarket was found guilty of condoning crimes against humanity and making antisemitic death threats.
This is what too many Irish people on this site, including an Irish Times, journalist, spread conspiracies about. This is what too many Irish people condoned, justified, and, in some cases, even lauded.
What is notable here, as Daniel says, is that the Irishman’s name has been revealed as Patrick — Paddy.
Will we see any apologies from the Irish people who lied that the Jewish victims were using ‘Paddy’ as an ‘anti-Irish slur’?
Sadly I just do not expect this. Because that would require an integrity that they simply do not possess.
