Here's Jensen Huang's commencement speech from NTU a few days ago. I cut out all of the pauses and ran the audio through Adobe's Speech Enhancement. I didn't realize how many long pauses he takes when talking until they're all removed and you see the super choppy video. Sorry in advance for the choppiness but, with them all removed, I saved you about 5-minutes. LOL Here are the big takeaways: 1. Many jobs will disappear, some will be more automated, and some will be obsolete. AI will create whole new industries and jobs, such as prompt engineers, AI safety engineers, AI factory operations, data engineers, and more. 2. Some worry that AI will take their jobs. The reality is that someone using AI will. 3. Story 1: They won a contract with Sega for their "forward texture mapping." A year into the project, they realized it was the wrong technology and that Microsoft's Direct3D technology was superior. Without the Sega money, NVIDIA would die. If they completed the contract, they'd be too far behind in tech. They contacted Sega and asked to back out of the contract but keep the money. Sega (surprisingly) agreed. This was a lesson in humility and asking for help from Sega saved NVIDIA. 4. Story 2: In 2007, they developed the CUDA programming model that leveraged GPUs instead of CPUs. At the time, only gamers cared about GPUs and everyone thought NVIDIA should shift their focus away from CUDA. They persisted, believing that the CUDA model was the future and it was eventually picked up by one science domain after another and, in 2012, gave birth to AI, sparking the AI revolution. Now NVIDIA GPUs are the engine that drives AI. This was a lesson in persistence and sticking to what they believed would be the future, despite their critics. 5. Story 3: In 2010, Google wanted to push into mobile. NVIDIA partnered with Google to make mobile chips and saw instant success. However, many competitors entered the market. They opted to retreat from building mobile chips to create a new market in robotics. They now have billions of dollars in robotics customers and created a new market. The lesson was that retreating was difficult but sometimes the right move. 6. Remember, you're either running for food or running from becoming food. Run towards what you want. Those were my big takeaways. I still think it's worth listening to in his own (highly condensed) words. Enjoy. :)
