Sure, some races are "not since 2008," and a few are "not since 1964", and occasionally you get a "not since 1932" but my God, this year has an actual "Not since Reconstruction" race.
After updates from a few counties, Scott Colom (D) has a 1138-vote lead over Cindy Hyde-Smith (R) in #MSsen. @MississippiSOS says there are up to 3600 outstanding mail ballots and an unknown number of provisionals left. Both should favor Democrats.

A better question is: can you imagine the post-war Atlantic City Boardwalk that created Spencer's?
The answer is no, you cannot, it is a vanished world.

I swear, the worst thing Trump ever did was twist the minds of people I had respected - even if I didn't always agree - into wanting something that looked more like a controlled limited democracy than something more properly American.
Going to advise you not look to closely at how the Dakotas or the western states were admitted into the Union. Playing obvious partisan games with Congressional representation, and more importantly, electoral college votes, had a long history in the US.
When I was a University of Delaware undergraduate 30+ years ago (at the time highly rated for its advances in party culture), one professor expected the entire class to read an entire Shakespeare play each week, and answer a fairly involved question with a one page MAX essay.
The idea of the sports world's endless financialization destroying one of the US's native arts is infuriating. Baseball on the radio is the sound of America's summer evenings, and can approach the sublime. If you doubt that, then just read this:

Replying to @DavidPSamson
@DavidPSamson says MLB no longer needs radio: "We don't need baseball on radio anymore." The former Marlins president predicts on Nothing Personal that "radio will go the way of Kodak and Blockbuster." @JohnMamola has more. #MLB

This is literally the plot to "The Best Years of our Lives," which is one hell of a great movie
I was 10 and doing my fifth grade spelling work at the kitchen table while my dad listened to Mondale and Reagan debate in the other room. And I distinctly remembered Mondale agreeing that taxes would have to go up and thinking well, he's never going to be president.

Newly-introduced bill being walked onto the NJ Senate floor today without the usual committee hearing. It would extend NJ's ban on police within 100 feet of the polls to federal law enforcement/active duty military.

This is quite interesting:
Two independent estimates of the evolution of Earth's gravity over the past 220 My produce very similar results.
One method is based on the measured body volume and estimated weight of extinct animals (mostly dinosaurs), while the other method uses a reconstruction of Earth's past diameter from a NOAA map of oceanic lithosphere ages done by Maxlow (2012). The first method uses the circumference of femur and humerus weight-bearing bones of extinct animals to estimate their weight when they were alive. The ratio of that weight to the animals' body mass (assuming an average tissue density of 0.99 tones m-3) gives an estimate of the relative gravity in the past. The second method assumes that Earth has been expanding according to Maxlow's Expansion Tectonics.
These results indicate that during the Mesozoic Era (the era of dinosaurs), from 252 My ago to 66 My ago, Earth's gravity was less than 75% of today's value. This can help explain the enormous sizes of some sauropods.
