Many executives expect the Rockets to chase another “star-level” talent this summer, per @sam_amick
“But whether it’s chasing Antetokounmpo, or perhaps Leonard or Mitchell, that approach runs the risk of backfiring if they come up short while sending the wrong kinds of signals to this current core.”

The Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo landscape at the start of NBA Trade Deadline week for @SportsCenter:
how is this ending the rebuild?
I remain perplexed by the collective reaction to the Trae trade (Not the owner's. Figured he is good with it!). I am banking on 3-D chess happening here by Winger/Dawkins, using Trae's contract and potential as future trade bait, rather rhan some internal shift that ends the rebuild prematurely and views Young as some long-term piece. We'll see...
One major clue: How much Trae sits out moving forward.

This rumored WAS/ATL trade stuff feels like it might be the kind of thing that takes a while to develop with no deadline looming.
WAS wants to get some draft compensation for paying Trae's player option for next year and the Hawks won't want to pay much to that end.

Latest substack piece from @TheSteinLine touched more on the Trae situation and states that “it's believed that the Hawks would also have to send the Wizards draft capital to convince them to absorb Young's contract”
I’m sorry but I just can’t fathom having to be the team to attach draft capital in this scenario unless you’re getting one of the Wizards actual prospects back, Like Tre or George, which I don’t see them offering

The Wizards have emerged as a legitimate potential trade destination for Atlanta's Trae Young, @TheSteinLine has learned, in a deal construction centered around CJ McCollum's expiring contract.
