Jeremy was a great person. And a close friend. When we heard about it last week all our friends were devastated. The world lost an amazing human. Just terrible! Rest in Peace Jeremy 💔
Tragic news in the VC community: Jeremy Solomon, a partner w/ Nyca Partners, died last week after a biking accident. Per the firm: In lieu of flowers or food, the family requests that donations in Jeremy's honor be made to Temple Beth El of Northern Westchester, where he and his family are actively engaged.

Two years ago Jake Bauers told his agent he was retiring. The plan was that his wife would go back to teaching and he would stay home with their kid. Three days later she told him she was pregnant, so he went back to work instead. For the insurance. Tonight he hit the go ahead home run in the National League Championship Series. Here is the whole thing. He is from Newport Beach, California, and he went to Marina High School in Huntington Beach. San Diego took him in the 7th round. Then seven organizations in 11 years. He hit for the cycle with Cleveland once. He has also been traded four times, sent down, taken off a 40 man roster and signed to three different minor league deals. He is a career .224 hitter. Two years ago he hit .199 with 118 strikeouts, and he decided that was enough. He figured the last good swing of his career was a home run he hit in a wild card game that October. He was fine with that being the end of it. Here is how he describes what happened next. "She tells me she's pregnant." And then this. "Obviously, she wasn't going back to work, so we decided I was going to keep playing." And the reason, in four words. "We needed health insurance." So he did not retire. Milwaukee took him off the roster that November anyway. He went into free agency, re-signed a minor league deal in January, and made the team out of spring training. This year he hit .266 with 26 home runs and 86 RBI and an .873 OPS. He is 31 years old and it is the best season of his life by a wide margin. In game 2 of this series he fouled off pitch after pitch against Yoshinobu Yamamoto, 12 of them in one at bat. Here is what he said about that. "I decided that he wasn't going to get me." And here is what he said about his wife a few days ago. "We have two kids, so she's holding it down at home by herself a lot of the time, which is a lot." And this. "She stuck by me this whole time when it wasn't always easy." And then he said this about himself. "I wasn't always the best husband. I wasn't always the best father." Here is the honest part. He is still a .224 hitter for his career and one great season does not erase 11 years of being almost good enough. He had not homered once in this postseason before tonight. But the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6 to 2 and they are up three games to none. A man quit baseball two years ago. His wife got pregnant, they needed the insurance, and he went back to work. For more stories like this, follow us on any platform @thesportsontap

Absolute legend @dougleone. Was so fortunate to work for him earlier in my career!
Sequoia partner Doug Leone reveals he got a root canal with no Novocaine to see if he was really a badass "I had to get a root canal. And I had to go to a meeting right after that. I told the dentist, drill without any Novocaine.” “My whole life, I wanted to see if I was a badass or not. Am I a fake badass that has this envelope nobody could tell, or am I really a badass on the inside?" "He drilled and I jumped. And I told the dentist, I won't move again. And I didn't move again. I used the trick of thinking what it must be like to go to war and lose an arm or two legs. That's pain with consequences. Mine was pain with no consequences." “It’s just nerve endings from there to my brain to my spine, f*ck it I’m not moving.” "I had to go home and change my shirt because I was a puddle of sweat. But I didn't move. And so I love fear. It does wonders for me."

I genuinely believe I’m one putter change away from my career low. I’ve believed that for my last 14 putters and I’ll continue to purchase them until I find the one.

Chevron is letting customers know in California that it’s not Donald Trump causing the insane gas prices in the state, it’s California Democrats Chevron just added these new signs to their pumps educating customers, “Sacramento policies did this. Now you pay more” “California politicians are choosing foreign oil and fuels over local jobs and lower costs” This is what we need. Huge companies willing to educate the public and tell the truth It’s Gavin Newsom and Democrat policies causing $6.30+ average cost per gallon in California

Let me explain what just happened 👇 5 minutes before the President announced a halt to attacks on Iran… someone placed a $1.5 BILLION bet on stocks going up and dumped $192 million in oil. 5 minutes… These trades were 4 to 6 times larger than anything else in the entire market. Whoever did this wasn’t guessing. You don’t risk $1.5 billion on a hunch. There was zero public indication this announcement was coming. No leaks. No press. Nothing. The only people who knew were in the room when the decision was made. Someone in that room picked up a phone. And within minutes they made more money than most Americans will earn in a thousand lifetimes. In a single trade. On a war that cost you $4+ a gallon gas and $16 billion in tax dollars. American citizens funded this war. Politicians are profiting from it. This is not the first time. Every major announcement from this administration has had massive suspicious trades right before it dropped. Tariff reversals. Policy shifts. War decisions. This is the most blatant insider trading operation in the history of American politics. It’s not even close. And it’s happening over and over in broad daylight. You would go to federal prison for trading on a tip from your cousin. These people are front running war decisions with billion dollar bets and nobody will ever ask a single question. Nobody will be investigated. Nobody will be charged. By tomorrow this will be buried under the next satisfying headline. Just like last time. And the time before that. The game is rigged. And they’re not even trying to hide it anymore…
BREAKING: Just five minutes before Trump's announcement to halt the attacks on Iran, massive trades reportedly hit the market. In one move, $1.5 billion in S&P 500 (ES) futures was bought while $192 million in oil (CL) futures was sold. These orders were 4–6x larger than anything else at the time. The trader seemingly made huge gains. Unusual.

Mind. Blown. How did Israel gather so much intelligence on Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior regime officials? According to the Financial Times, nearly all of the Iranian capital’s traffic cameras had been hacked years earlier, their footage encrypted and transmitted to Israeli servers. One camera angle near Pasteur Street, close to Khamenei’s compound, allowed analysts to observe the routines of bodyguards and drivers: where they parked, when they arrived and whom they escorted.

All my small plane pilot friends are big mad at @starlink today. Their plans just went up 5X in price overnight, and the data included went from 100GB to 20GB. I know it's a small group of people, but this is causing many to cancel this service as it's now cost-prohibitive especially with the lower bandwidth service. Starlink was a complete game-changer for being connected from a small plane, and I think it would be cool if they left it where it was so normal folks in piston aircraft could enjoy it, and reserve the higher-price tiers for turbine aircraft speeds, 300+mph. It's got to be the tiniest revenue difference for SpaceX either way, but it's a world of difference for safety and connectivity to the American general aviation fleet of small planes. cc @elonmusk

I think almost everything that can be said about Eileen Gu and Alysa Liu has already been said, but when I step back and look at the full picture, I keep getting blown away by how reality handed us a script far more perfect than anything fiction could invent. On one side, you have the cold, elitist “I’m the most decorated” athlete, raised in one of the wealthiest and most exclusive neighborhoods in the country, Sea Cliff, who gladly sold out the country that gave her everything in order to became the PR face of a brutal dictatorship in exchange for a few suitcases of cash. On the other side, you have the happy-go-lucky, “That’s what I’m fucking talking about” girl from working-class Richmond, coerced by Communist Party operatives, refusing to bow to them, and proudly representing the United States. And that does not even begin to touch on the tortuous path Alysa’s father had in getting to the United States, compared with the easy route taken by Eileen’s mother, or the many other layers of this story. And then, perfectly, one wins both her competitions and the other loses both. If anyone tried to make a movie out of this story, no one would believe it.
