Back then, they argued:
"The Soviet Union is not the Russian Empire!"
"Tales of millions starving aren't real!"
"We shouldn't anger the bear!"
"It's the leadership! The people are not to blame!"
Now they argue similar nonsense:
"Russia is not the Soviet Union!"
"All that footage of murder and genocide isn't real!"
"We shouldn't anger the nuclear country!"
"It's just Putin's war! The people are not to blame!"
A hundred years has passed and nothing has changed.
History will judge us for making the same mistake again.

Les évènements graves qui se déroulent actuellement en Pologne autour du Tribunal constitutionnel suscitent une profonde inquiétude.
La suspension contestée du président du Tribunal, l’intervention des forces de sécurité autour de cette institution semblent s’apparenter à une prise de contrôle forcée d’une institution constitutionnelle.
L’indifférence de l’Union européenne et le silence des médias face à la crise polonaise suscitent de légitimes interrogations : on ne peut prétendre défendre la démocratie et l’État de droit et se taire lorsque l’équilibre constitutionnel d’un État membre est gravement menacé.
On ne restaure pas l’État de droit en donnant le sentiment de s’affranchir soi-même des règles qui le fondent.
La multiplication de ces coups de force au sein même de l’Union européenne commence à sérieusement interroger.

Byli prezesi Trybunału Konstytucyjnego przerwali milczenie. Marek Safjan, Jerzy Stępień, Bohdan Zdziennicki i Andrzej Zoll wydali wspólne oświadczenie, w którym stają murem za nowo wybranymi sędziami TK. Ich przekaz jest jednoznaczny: sędziowie zostali legalnie wybrani przez Sejm i mają pełne prawo przywracać Trybunałowi jego rolę i rangę.
Autorzy nie owijają w bawełnę. Kryzys wokół TK trwa już ponad dekadę. Sprawy rozpatrywane są w składach z udziałem osób nieprawidłowo powołanych, na czele instytucji stoi osoba wyłoniona w wadliwej procedurze, a Zgromadzenie Ogólne nie jest zwoływane, co paraliżuje pracę sądu konstytucyjnego. Do tego dochodzi ignorowanie wyroków Europejskiego Trybunału Praw Człowieka i Trybunału Sprawiedliwości UE.
Najmocniejsze słowa padają pod adresem prezydenta Karola Nawrockiego i Bogdana Święczkowskiego. Byli prezesi zarzucają im blokowanie objęcia urzędu przez nowo wybranych sędziów oraz próby ingerowania w autonomię Trybunału. Sytuację określają jako alarmującą.
Jest też recepta. Zdaniem sygnatariuszy należy zwołać Zgromadzenie Ogólne sędziów TK i podjąć uchwały w sprawie wniosków Prokuratora Generalnego o uchylenie immunitetów Bogdana Święczkowskiego i Bartłomieja Sochańskiego. Innej drogi wyjścia z kryzysu konstytucyjnego, jak podkreślają, po prostu nie ma.
Głos czterech osób, które przez lata kierowały Trybunałem, trudno zbagatelizować. To najpoważniejszy jak dotąd sygnał ze strony prawniczych autorytetów w sporze o przyszłość TK.

Turns out Ukrainians leaving occupied Oleshky not only took theirs pets but also every dog and cat from streets they could catch
Oleshky is heavily mined and blocked by russians and there is no food or any goods supply

“No Official U.S. Representatives Were on the Ground in Oleshky”: What Was Washington’s Actual Role in the Evacuation from Oleshky?

Kateryna Lisunova, Ukrainian journalist based in Washington, D.C.:
“We should be objective. Despite claims from the American side that they somehow brokered this deal or contributed to making it happen, there were no official American representatives on the ground in Oleshky.
If we’re talking about people with American passports, there was only one Newsmax TV crew, consisting of a very small number of people. There were two camera operators, one journalist, and one interpreter. They brought this interpreter from Ukraine, who, I believe, works full-time for The New York Times in Ukraine.
Everything was under the control of the russians. Every step the crew took was monitored by russian representatives.
They were also told that they could only travel to Oleshky by first going to Moscow, then to Crimea, and finally from Crimea to Oleshky. This essentially constitutes a violation of Ukrainian law, which prohibits entering the occupied territories through russia.
Nevertheless, the russians demanded that the TV crew travel through Moscow, which also meant taking a much longer route. There was also a proposal to bring them through Belarus.
But there were no official representatives of the U.S. administration or anyone else representing the American government on the ground.
And that also speaks to the level of fear. They claim this is a war that should be easy to end, yet they are afraid to show up at the scene in Oleshky. Nobody had the courage to come and help facilitate this evacuation.
There were no independent third-party observers, such as representatives of the United Nations, the OSCE, or any other independent organization that could objectively monitor what was happening.
And that’s why it’s very difficult for me to say what role the Trump administration, and Melania Trump personally, are actually playing in all of this.
We’ve already seen several occasions when Melania Trump said she was looking after Ukrainian children. But then she made a very strange statement, claiming that there had been an exchange in which russian children were sent from Ukraine back to russia, while Ukrainian children were returned home from russia.
Ukraine does not kidnap russian children.
It’s a deeply confusing statement, and it makes it very difficult to understand what role Melania Trump is actually playing in this process, especially given that there was no official U.S. representative on the ground in Oleshky.”

Jannicke Mikkelsen, Norway’s first astronaut, is auctioning her “Space Rolex” to raise money for Fritt Ukraina, a Norwegian charity whose aid to Ukraine includes vehicles and equipment for air defense units.
In April 2025, during the Fram2 space mission, Mikkelsen saw a Russian ballistic missile heading toward Ukraine. In August she traveled to Kryvyi Rih as a Fritt Ukraina volunteer and visited the sites of Russian strikes: a business hit the day she saw the attack from space, where four people were killed, and a playground where a Russian missile killed 20 people, nine of them children, two days later.
“I wanted to see where the missile hit. What kind of missile it was. Who it hit,” she said.
The watch, a titanium Rolex Deepsea Challenge that traveled around the Earth on Fram2, goes under the hammer at Nyborgs Auksjoner in Oslo on 11 November. Everything above its original price goes to Fritt Ukraina. Mikkelsen also wants the auction to draw attention to Ukraine’s need for more air defense to protect civilians.
