What if gifted programs were EXPANDED so that ALL schools met the needs of brilliant Black and brown children who are often presumed to be "just fine" AND to leverage those same strategies to raise the bar for ALL students? Equity does not require elimination.

Systemic racism occurs in all aspects of American society -- especially in our education system. We cannot stand by and allow those who profit from our racist education system to pretend to be the arbiters of equity. You can't be pro-police reform and anti-education reform.

Excellence gaps have long plagued our schools, with poor, African American, and Hispanic youngsters almost always on one side, and non-poor, white, and Asian kids on the other. Advanced Placement has laudably helped narrow them, but worrying gaps remain. gadf.ly/2UL79YZ

Gifted education in the U.S. is too scarce and lacks substance, and that’s especially true for high achieving black and Latino children. A new report blames it on "policies, adult decisions and practices and little to do with students’ academic abilities.” gadf.ly/2NrJCbi
