A lot of people associate the rise of “New Media” with @a16z. But it actually belongs to @ColinandSamir. And it started when they decided to turn the camera around and document the era of YouTube that would make it more popular than television. Measuring velocity of designers is absolute bullsh*" says @sravienna, CDO at @metalab Speed isn't about cutting corners. It's about building trust. The faster you demonstrate momentum, the more goodwill you earn. And that goodwill buys you the space for quality work. Her team uses "Tarantinos": Play out the end of the movie fast, throw everything at the wall, kill your darlings. 80% won't work. But you need space to find the 20% that becomes magic. Lee is one of my favorite designer’s of recent memory, and this is one of my favorite convos. New State of Play is up.

New State of Play with @eschadiol from @perplexity_ai. She made those @comet invitations that looked hand-crafted but scaled to 10k+ unique outputs. Trained her own models to pull it off. Also runs a record label on the side. Uses AI to demo ideas to producers, then works with them to make the real thing. Designers have regularly been sending me some really cool things they're creating. So I asked you to send me short video walking through your tool usage. Show me what you built and how you built it. It's pretty incredible to see how you guys are building with these tools. @Luvnits created a graffiti ink tool using Figma Make. He took a physics approach to making sure the ink-bleed was realistic and variable. @victoria_framer used @floraai and @framer to test ideas faster than I've seen anyone move. @fw3d rebuilt a @contra branding effect in @hiunicornstudio just to understand how it worked. I've spent the year studying how designers are exploring. Then the @karrisaarinen vs. @ryolu_ debate kicked off, and it captured everything I've been seeing this year. I sat down to write a 60 second video about it. 6 hours later I'd written something more. Reasonable hyperbole: this was the most important convo in design this year. Team is stacked going into 2026: Design, dev, video production and a great network of film crew excited to show up when we need them. We talk all day about "taste" in craft. But when you have great taste in people and talent, really cool things happen. It's a big theme in my upcoming episode with Colin & Samir.
