12 years in IT and digital businesses. And I just decided to start an offline business. Not because digital is dead. Because the economics changed. Full reasoning here:

The API cost of Fable 5 for a simple 7-page HTML website is $244. So tell me, is AI cheap, or is buying an HTML template cheaper?
This is the API cost for a simple 7-page HTML website, essentially scraped from an existing live website and replicated almost exactly. The only real benefit is the time saved, got it done in an hour. But I could hire someone on Upwork for $50–$100 and have the same thing done within a week. If AI tools continue getting more expensive, their pricing will become increasingly difficult to justify. So, yes, a lot of people say template business is dead, AI can do that now, copy any websites. I don't think so. AI is costly, maybe for now you are paying $20 a month, but it will not be the case in the future. It's far cheaper to buy a product then trying to copy someone's work (not even going into ethics/legal issues)

From a passionate, energetic community to a depressed and demotivated one in an update. 💔
I haven’t made a sale in a looong time. 🥲 Dub commissions have also been pretty bad lately. I’m getting almost no new commissions. Honestly, it’s starting to feel quite discouraging when it comes to my Framer template business. I’m not sure how I should move forward from here.

i think framer 3.0 could end up being one of the more interesting product decisions to look back on. the timing is especially interesting. workflows are changing rapidly, ai is taking over more of the creative process, and framer’s new agent features were genuinely exciting. but one of framer’s biggest strengths was never just the product. it was the community. creators genuinely loved framer, built businesses around it, taught it, recommended it, and vouched for the platform day after day. that kind of loyalty is incredibly difficult to build. with the 3.0 changes, framer seems to have made a decision that upset a significant part of that community, including some of its most loyal and enthusiastic creators. in the ai era, loyalty might become one of the most valuable assets a company can have. products are becoming easier to replicate. workflows are changing faster. users have more alternatives than ever. what may increasingly differentiate a platform is the people who believe in it and bring others along. that’s why i think the impact of this decision could end up being much bigger than it looks today. years from now, i wouldn’t be surprised if framer 3.0 becomes an interesting case study in product strategy: what happened, why the decision was made, how the community reacted, and what companies can learn about the value of the people who help build an ecosystem. the product will keep evolving. the community may too. but products can be copied. communities can’t.

okay guys, I've found the solution 👀
Want to know from all Framer creators, how are the sales? It's been 2+ months, and the situation isn't improving.

Marketplace update is here. I like this new UI, it reminds me of the previous one. Maybe add one row of featured templates at top? 👀

Framer just quietly ended the template business as you know it. When I started there were maybe 1k @framer templates on the whole marketplace, and with a quality product the hardest part was just getting approved. Now anyone can publish ∞ templates a day with no approval, so we're heading toward 1k a week. When everyone can publish anything, the hard part is just getting noticed. The best designer no longer wins. The designer people actually follow does. That's uncomfortable for a lot of us who just wanted to build, but it's where this is going. Nobody finds you by accident anymore.
