On October 8, 2007, media reports revealed that Nigeria denied Bill Gates’s visa application, despite his being the world’s richest man for the 13th consecutive year, with an estimated fortune of $59 billion. The Nigerian government wanted proof that the billionaire would not overstay his welcome and become a burden on the country's social services. The Microsoft chairman had to get a letter from his bank, and his visa was subsequently approved. Bill Gates turns 71 today. #HistoryVille

While the opposition elements are content with selling doom and gloom with the hope their narratives will resonate and help them win next elections, the economy under President Tinubu is responding very well to the reforms. And the evidence is crystal clear. The manufacturing sector is expanding and adding jobs. In 2025, the sector added 81,174 jobs more than double the 34,769 jobs created in 2024, marking a 133.47 percent year-on-year increase. "The surge in employment was driven by a recovery in factory activity in the first half, supported by a more stable exchange rate for imported inputs, improved business confidence, and a rise in manufactured exports, according to data presented by Segun Ajayi-Kadir, director-general of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, at the association’s 54th Annual General Meeting in Lagos," according to Businessday newspaper.

Na him be Papa to Wale Tinubu of Oando Oil. In 1976, General Olusegun Obasanjo appointed him Federal Commissioner (Minister) for Health. This is Mr Kafaru Oluwole Tinubu, LLB, LLM, BL, CP Rtd. He was born in Kakawa area of Lagos Island in the early 1930s, from the Tinubu family of Lagos. He joined the Nigeria Police Force during the colonial era and rose through the ranks when police work was still under British command. He became one of the most respected officers of his time. He was known as West Police Boss and later became Commissioner of Police for the old Western State of Nigeria. That position made him head of police for the entire Western Region before the states were divided. During his police days, he was called a super cop. He was known for discipline and enforcement of law, but also for defending peoples rights. After his police career, he studied law and became a lawyer with LLB and LLM and BL. He married Alhaja Bintu Tinubu in 1963 and they had four children including Wale Tinubu, who is Group Chief Executive of Oando Plc. He died in 2003. His family marked his 20th anniversary in October 2023. He was buried as the patriarch of the Tinubu family of Lagos.
