this whole "first conservative government in decades" thing is getting pretty annoying. here's our last conservative premier christy clark, who was in power until 2017, explaining why electing right-wing governments is not new in BC:
Canadian province of British Columbia just elected a Conservative government for first time in decades. Here's part of the story why, me in the @theAtlantic from 2025 theatlantic.com/internationa…

Twin studies almost certainly exaggerate heritability, and it gets even worse when you include RDR instead of sib regression. nature.com/articles/s41562-0…

I despise driving 30 minutes lol.
Drove from San Francisco to Monterey (120 mi) today, and have no energy left. Driving is dangerous, stressful, and exhausting. Some people love it and are good at it, but it's appalling that we force so many people to do it just so they can have lives.

Netanyahu's fans only have fear to offer. He was the leader on 10/7. What part of they don't fear your ailing leader do you not get?
The message that will be sent around the world if Bibi loses is “we were right, even his own people reject him and his genocide”. Israel, in one election, will affirm the world’s hatred of Jews and all they’ve been saying about us. This is NOT the time to abandon the man. The world hates a strong Israel, and this is not the time to elect weakness!

This has been researched and there is suprisingly no negative effect of female attractiveness on relationship satisfaction.
Southern couples are the least looksmatched couples in the US > This is because of small cities + christian values > You start dating your high school sweetheart that also goes to your church + parents know each other > Girl was always a bit outside his league, but there is no competition, he treats you well and his family has money Then comes college: > Girl starts looksmaxxing to fit in > Guy starts bingedrinking & eating trash to fit in >> Suddenly you have a total rocket dating a dud - because of christian values, breaking up is harder Only two potential outcomes: - Dude gets her pregnant, moves her back to Bama to take over the family business - Couple moves to NYC, where she breaks up with him within 6-12 months With IG & Hypergamy, most cases end in divorce

Yes, this is just grotesque.

So lower then a huge number of twin estimates? Like the granted heritability of height was 80+% before AM adjustment in most twin studies iirc.
you knew height was 'highly' heritable, but you had no idea

Like this is substantially below twin estimation!

Remember Crem promoting a study that had to be fraudulent by the way?
A decade of 23andme statistics being used for race science garbage and now they don't want anything to do with cognitive phenotypes ...

But also @/elanbechor has miscited sib regression himself on these topics before. xitter.cf/elephant_ben/status/21…

Like this gets close to mendacious here is the whole table. @ukuv

Why does all culture seem to have died roughly around 2010? With no major new ideas since then.

I'm very very doubtful of this, this has happened in prot offshoots for decades but certainly not all of them.
I believe we are going to see more and more Protestant churches affirm polygamy. It's actually not a huge step once you adopt the sort of hyper-literal Biblicism that's already the de facto approac in that world. It won't be the mainstream view, but could get traction.

The basic problem with this kind of argument is we historically had high gdp per capita growth that was so tremendous automation couldn't eliminate jobs, that is very different from now.
before capitalism, everyone assumed most people were only good for farming. take them off the fields and you’d have millions of useless mouths to feed. that’s the ai panic word for word: automate cognitive work and you get billions of useless minds except when farming went from 80% to 2% of people, it didn’t make useless mouths. it made everyone else we don’t know much about the ambitions of people who’ve never had the means to act on them. people learn what’s realistic, not what would need a team, take years, or feel like someone else’s job. after a while the limits feel like preferences. so when someone says “most people just use ai for emails,” that’s not a fact about people. it’s how small they’ve learned to want being able to do more will fundamentally change what we want. which is why every prediction built on how people use ai today is far too small contraptions.venkateshrao.co…

Secular people like secular holidays. More deep insight here.
Why do arrogant agnostic transplants love to decorate their homes for Halloween so much but yet for no other holiday? -Just drive around Park slope or Brooklyn Heights or Cobble Hill and you’ll see what I mean. They try to outdo one another with the Halloween decorations. It’s almost like Dyker heights in reverse .

This is why opposing abortion is due to relgious reasons thus any arguments against it are inherently poorly motivated is odd, is secular homophobia better?
Funny continued finding here that abortion is seemingly opposed basically entirely on relgious grounds but also same sex marriage is seemingly opposed for secular reasons a ton.

Like how Jordan just did what Israel did in Syria on much more minor scale.
❗In the first diplomatic crisis between Amman and Damascus after Assad's ouster, Syria suspends passenger and commercial traffic through the Nassib border crossing with Jordan. Syria protested Jordanian strikes this evening that killed Syrian civilians. xitter.cf/AmmanNet/status/211485…

This is obviously nonsensical when Japan exists and is #3 in Nobel Prizes since 2000.
The fastest way to determine if Asians have assimilated to American culture is to ask them about schooling. If they don’t realize that America and the West dominated their cultures/countries because of a childhood focus on play rather than memorization then they have not assimilated. The reason their kids are in a school in Arizona, as opposed to the American kids in an “American School in X” is a lack of appreciation and understanding of this fact. To the extent that demographics change the school system, like in Palo Alto/Bay Area, for these people, it is for the worse.

Younger evangelicals are much more supportive of same-sex marriage compared to older evangelicals. It's ~25% among those born in the 1940s It's ~50% among those born in the 2000s. But on legalizing abortion? Support is ~33% in every birth cohort. Age has no impact.

> AlphaFold worked, after all. did it though? alphafold was created 8 years ago now and has led to 0 new cures for diseases and 0 clinical trial candidates downstream of it's predicted structures.
If you had an exponential amount of compute you could solve simulate biology exactly and wouldn't need to run any experiments. Some of you will think "of course, but that's an unrealistic assumption" and others will think "no, you need experiments even with that much compute. That's just How It's Done". You would of course need evaluations once you have a solution, but you don't in principle need experiments to find it: Experiments are a way to save compute, dating from a time when it was much more expensive. And I think the presentation is exponential but real systems aren't irreducibly exponential. AlphaFold worked, after all.
