Good piece, but he seems to be…a pretty normal Methodist?
Everyone's talking about Adam Hamilton, the pastor running for U.S. Senate in Kansas (a Dem who might win!). But Hamilton isn't just any Christian or any pastor. He's a pretty Jesus-y mega-church pastor. Dems may be loving his candidacy right now, but that's complicated for the party. newyorker.com/news/the-lede/…

I mean, the Methodist influence in Hillary Clinton's speeches was often pretty palpable. Sure, she didn't usually come out and say it, so that's different, I guess.

I literally coined the term "the Blob" to describe people who wanted to go to war with Iran.
Wait. What?! There’s stuff you can pin on the Blob but the Iran war damn sure ain’t one of them.

It is worth noting that the Alaska Division of Elections borderline rigged the 2010 election in favor of Murkowski

I didn't realize they literally issued a press release
Pope Leo XIV has voted in the midterm elections of the United States, expressing his β€œbelief in the right and the duty of citizens to participate in democratic processes.” The Holy See Press Office announced on Friday that Pope Leo XIV, an American citizen, "has exercised his right to vote as a United States citizen, whenever he was eligible to do so." The Press Office confirmed that, β€œin keeping with this long-standing practice of civic participation, he has submitted his mail-in ballot in Chicago.” β€œThe Holy Father has also confirmed that, during his years of residence in Peru he exercised his right to vote whenever he was eligible to do so,” noted the statement.

If you apply the kind of differential turnout and demographic swings that would flip Mississippi to other Southern states, these are the results across Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Carolina all within 3% of one another!

Here’s a golden rule in politics and probably other industries: It’s never the communications staff’s idea to put out a press statement this long.
On the eve of the eve of the eve of our BIG and important election, a unifying moment has arrived, our democratic nominee for U.S Senate disavows the Rebellion PAC ad made by Hasan Piker’s uncle that claims Jews are responsible for America’s economic woes. We have learned from party leaders and emissaries, as reported in the news media that he has. On Sunday I will join with the Great Democratic leader, Jim Clyburn and Dr El Sayed for a church service in the beautiful city of Detroit. The political coalition of Black and Jewish voices that have carried Michigan and this country through so many storms to the righteous path of liberal democracy and equal opportunity for all will ring out. Full statement here:

Per YouGov - voters trust Democrats on transgender rights by a 29 point margin. Among moderates the margin is 34 points

Scoop: El-Sayed’s campaign is asking Stevens to stay away from all future campaign events in the closing days of the race, two people familiar with the decision told POLITICO, W/ @lisakashinsky & @jsscppr politico.com/news/2026/10/30…

The audacity of Stevens to position herself as a spokesperson for the Black community is also breathtaking.

Thinking about things like "notary public," "body politic," phrases where English puts the modifier after the noun like a Romance language. There must be some other examples

I was going to say dance macabre but apparently that is properly the Romance loan…uh, loanphrase β€œDanse Macabre”, and an untranslated loanphrase violates the category restriction IMO.

Oh, also: we asked Pope Leo's longtime friend, the Rev. Mark Francis, who he thinks the pontiff voted for. β€œI think you can infer from his constant reiteration of Catholic Social teaching that he would not be voting straight Republican,” he said.

Yep. The people who say today he should disavow something he had nothing to do with would be happy to come back a moment later with something else he should disavow that he had nothing to do with, ad infinitum. It's bad faithβ€”an attempt at sabotageβ€”and Abdul is right to dismiss it.
Fantastic statement from @AbdulElSayed - you don’t bow down to bullies, whether Mike Rogers and Donald Trump or Haley Stevens and AIPAC.

Mike Collin has the opposite problem. Since his backside is relatively flat, the trousers are too full in the seat. They are not built for his figure. As such, excess material collapses around his buttocks. The result can look like a diaper.

Over the last 24 hours, I believe the 3 major forecasters (Cook, Inside Elections, & Sabato) have pulled 4 races into "likely Republican" that, until yesterday, none of them had rated as anything but "safe" Republican: #LASen, #NC05, #NC09, #OK05.
