In a culture that views marriage as a benefit for *self*, that veiws it as disposable and temporary, endeavor to make your marriage a bright and shining beacon of *selfless* partnership for the benefit of *others*.

Student competes as male in the first race, then switches identity to female for rest of the year, helping Camas High School win ("win") districts.
Democrats want to dance around this issue in the name of "inclusion" and "equity." The rest of America sees it as grossly unfair.

Amazing that a person who has produced so many estimates doesn’t even know how budget scoring works.
@joshrauh is right here, and @gabriel_zucman once again wrong.
See for example scores of repatriation holidays.

Now, the crucial flaw is that Jaros and @joshrauh simply ignore this.
They assume that billionaires will leave permanently, frightened by the prospects of an annual wealth tax.
But they just count the revenue from the one-time wealth tax. Not the revenue from the annual tax.
The annual tax that triggered the “exodus” Jaros and @joshrauh imagine never materializes.
The billionaires upended their lives for nothing.

More parents than I want to admit are whistling past the graveyard. I understand the desire to believe that everything is fine. The problem is that pretense seriously undermines your child's independence.
I want to help.
I've been working (with @Grok) on three tests (3rd grade, 6th grade, and 8th grade) that parents can use to determine how much their child has been learning at school. I'll likely post all three to Substack and X articles when done, which should be this weekend.
For now though, I want all parents to be aware of three great resources that I found courtesy of @phonicsmom that will help you see how well your older child is reading. 🧵

This is the standard way to score tax policy. You score the law as written (in this case a one-time wealth tax) and the behavioral consequences from that law (people worried it will last moving).
There are arguments against that approach. But is not “highly inappropriate” or “dishonest” to do what JCT or any other neutral body would do.

Let’s be clear: this is a highly inappropriate way to model the effect of Prop 40 on taxpayer behavior.
For one, it’s a basic violation of rational expectations, a cornerstone of modern economics.
In Jaros and @joshrauh world, the billionaires act irrationally: they respond to a policy that does not exist and will never exist.
Economics students around the world are taught this is not an appropriate way to model behavior — but apparently in this context (fighting Prop 40) it’s OK.
How sad. I wish either of my grandmothers, married 56 years and almost 72 years, were still here to speak to this. “Can I do better?” is not a question to entertain once you’ve made a vow.
7yo: Mom who was the first girl president again?
Me: We haven’t had one yet
7yo, after a pause: What if it was me?
Me: Well you’d be the leader of the whole United States
7yo: So I could make pennies again?!

Remote work is an incredible gift for those (like myself) for whom the options are remote work or no work, and who are surrounded by an already large social infrastructure — including my four homeschooled kids.
I am 100% ready to believe it’s very bad for young people just starting out, and for [many] others who benefit a lot from the structure of being in the office or onsite somewhere.

The differences by discipline are interesting.
Economists: 71% against
Accountants: 85% against
Lawyers: 60% in favor
Economists and accountants, who frequently study tax incentives, measurement, and implementation, were considerably less supportive than lawyers.

You can spot the biologically male runner at a glance, towering over the girls.
No one watching these races can be fooled into thinking it’s fair.
BREAKING: Nearly half of the girls cross-country team in Camas, Washington, just forfeited their race. They refused to compete against a boy. This is bravery. Vote YES on I-638 to stand with them. Video: @KnownHeretic

You need to think about the marginal, not the inframarginal.
(Plus the huge body of research that says taxes do matter for things like investment)
“The idea that Mark Zuckerberg was sitting in his Harvard dorm room and would have been deterred from starting Meta if the capital gains tax rate was slightly closer to the ordinary income tax rate strikes me as categorically absurd,” argues @NatashaRSarin, professor of law at Yale Law School.

True!! @gabriel_zucman either didn't read the paper or is lying.
The Hoover folks make different assumptions, get different anwsers.
Many cases where Gabe's conclusions are changed with different, reasonable assumption to answers that don't align with the causes he advocates.
