Remember when every Canadian political leader was briefly obsessed with removing internal trade barriers and then all collectively did absolutely nothing to do so?
Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Often overlooked from the equation is provincial debts.
When people say Canada's debt is "manageable compared to other G7 countries," they're only counting the federal slice. Most G7 countries don't have provinces carrying $828B in net debt.
Who doesn't love a bond issue update?!
@GovNL update shows new Gov is continuing with bonds issued in foreign currency. What's interesting about this one is it's $100M at 4%, higher than previous foreign bonds. And for a 30 year term. Also much higher than previous.
Interesting update in the @GovNL bond portfolio this week. A bond issued in December has only now appeared in the database — same issue date as a previous tranche. Odd delay 🧵👇
Credit to @PCPartyNL for some early fiscal restraint, but if the deficit can’t be eliminated immediately, we need a clear roadmap with real targets.
So, @alexrobertbill and @Andrew_Parsons1 have a great new podcast. The Honourable and the Hack. They wanted to know my thoughts on #nlpoli.
Was more than happy yo oblige. Thanks for having me on, gents.

In our latest Economics Matters podcast, we examine the recent federal budget, how the ambitious investments will impact Canadians and dive into how the public sector reductions will be felt in the Ottawa-Gatineau region. Listen at the link here: bit.ly/48sJz94
Latest $800M bond issue from Gov of NL was updated this week.
First time since August.
Interesting rates continue to creep higher from previous offers.
This seems like something that should get more attention in #nlpoli circles.
Labrador has, and will have, serious strategic significance.
The United States wants to meet with Greenland 🇬🇱 – without Denmark 🇩🇰
The United States has attempted to arrange a high-level political meeting with representatives from Greenland without involving Denmark. According to the Danish newspaper Politiken, which has spoken to sources in the United States, Greenland, and Denmark, the U.S. has on several occasions sought to establish direct dialogue with Jens-Frederik Nielsen after he became Greenland’s new premier in April.
The established practice is that both Denmark and Greenland must be present when foreign, security, and defence policy matters affecting Greenland are discussed. Despite this, the U.S. has repeatedly attempted to bypass Denmark — even though foreign, defence, and security policy remain the responsibility of the central government of Denmark.
According to Section 19 of the Danish Constitution, the Government of Denmark retains full responsibility for the foreign policy of the Kingdom of Denmark, including matters concerning Greenland.
Interesting podcast on the upcoming federal budget. Relevant to #nlpoli is the discussion on the trend for governments to list what should seemingly be expenses as capital investments, make deficits appear much lower than they actually are.

Coincidental I'm sure, and long overdue for this stretch of road.
But there's something very #nlpoli about seeing this in front of the house on Advance Poll Day.
Some new bond info for Gov NL updated today.
$2.6B borrowed so far on the fiscal year, seems our rates are creeping up on 10 year, which I'd have to think is expected given our level of borrowing.

If you were trying to foster and grow a connection between the larger community and your institution, it seems like cutting the Harris Centre and Office of Public Engagement wouldn't be where you'd start to find savings. Really says a lot about Leadership's understanding.
