At the start of the war, a cozy online circle jerk of the “Ukrainian left” and its Western fans appeared, which loved to mock critical journalism and scholarship and to use the “mainstream media won’t report it” meme to dismiss outlandish conspiracy theories, and so on. Well, the reporting of the mainstream Western media on the key issues of the war and on Ukrainian and Russian societies has become abysmal. The cozy circle of the “responsible left” has, of course, gone mum now that commenting publicly on the war requires a bit more bravery, or too much Jesuitical justification of the unjustifiable.

😨 Protesters near Kyiv have started throwing eggs and lighting flares as tensions escalate
A protest is ongoing in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka outside a house used by Ukraine's National Guard to temporarily accommodate mobilized servicemen.
The crowd is demanding answers following reports of alleged mistreatment of military personnel.

One of the first things Azov ever did was occupy Mariupol, murder civilians and set up a torture prison. That was back in 2014, over twelve years ago. By 2022 they had several black sites all over eastern Ukraine where they tortured "separatists" accused of being pro-Russian (and also for "regular" criminal purposes like extortion). Why is anyone surprised. Well, the last few years they're allowed to kidnap and torture everyone else, too, I guess.
Protesters stormed a building in the town of Sofiivska Borschahivka on the western outskirts of Kyiv, where at least 14 people - primarily forcibly mobilised men - were reportedly being held hostage by personnel from the 1st Corps of the National Guard "Azov". Among those in the building was a child who was allegedly beaten with a shovel.
A bus arrived at the scene to transport around 12 of the individuals being held, resulting in the protesters attempting to overturn the vehicle. Rapid Operational Response Unit (KORD) personnel dispersed the protests, with reports of gunfire and explosions being heard amid the clashes.
President Office Head Kyrylo Budanov arrived at the scene, stating that he was trying to "figure out what the hell is going on." The event is under investigation by the National Guard.

A Ukrainian people's deputy Maryana Bezuglaya calls the discovery of a secret military torture prison near Kiev a "successful Russian operation".
The doctor who exposed it, even though she isn't a director of a clinic she claimed to be, has been arrested. The Ukrainian media has already shifted attention away from the fact of existence of torture psions to the fact that she isn't who she claims to be.
Thousand talking Goebbels heads are now blaming Russia for this discovery and accuse it of attempts to destabilize Ukraine from within.
She will get imprisoned, some Azovites will at most probably get a slap on the hand, and things will go back to business as usual.

Вдала російська операція, і не варто було так метушитися на хайпі Буданову, Вигівському, Півненку, вважаю. У мене тут одне питання: а що сталося з СБУ?
Мала надії на Поклада, але поки не бачу стратегічних результатів. А такі операції, які росіяни планують пачками, переважно гасилися при Малюку на ранніх стадіях планування та розвитку.
Я багато оприлюднювала інформації про зловживання в силах оборони, які дійсно мають місце. І дуже прикро, що наше люди збурилися рядженою агенткою-«лікаркою» та істериками, натомість проблеми у підрозділах, розслідування щодо зловживань у війську часто залишалися моєю проблемою та проблемою обмеженого кола небайдужих.

In case anyone had any illusions that we could negotiate anything with the current junta in Kiev, yesterday the Ukrainian human rights ombudsman Lubynets was smiling for cameras and taking selfies with his Russian counterpart and today he wished death to Russians with the small crowd that chose to evacuate to the Ukrainian territory.

Assad, obviously fair enough, but calling Vucic and Orban dictators after they conceded power following electoral defeats rather stretches the definition.
And, in reality, Yanukovych, no matter what we might think of him, won an election and agreed to hold another ahead of schedule before being driven from office by a violent uprising.
