Replying to @Rothmus
Those who are opposed to corporations and favor government do not realize that government is simply the largest, most monopolistic corporation of all and it has a monopoly on violence.

Andrew Luster, an heir to the Max Factor cosmetics fortune, was convicted in 2003 of 86 counts of drugging and raping three innocent victims. He was sentenced to 124 years in prison. That was later reduced to 50 years. The State of CA just released him after serving only 20 years. This is the result of Prop 57 and numerous other ridiculous, unreasonable and unsafe policies supported & passed by Sacramento and CA politicians over the last 15 years. Rapists aren’t victims. Prisons & jails are necessary to make sure we, our children, our families and our communities are safe from dangerous people & repeat offenders. “Criminal justice reform” shouldn’t mean murderers, thieves and rapists are victims, we just ignore and forget about the real victims, prisons should be abolished, violent criminals should be released early, even rapists should get “good time” credits, 50 yrs old is considered an elder if you are a violent criminal, everyone gets to claim they are entitled to mental health diversion, theft isn’t a crime anymore, we should embrace open air drug markets, LWOP sentences should be reduced, and so many other dangerous and nonsensical policies. Can one politician who supported this tell us how does releasing a serial rapist into the community of Glendora make children or families in that community any safer or better off?

Gov. @GavinNewsom just signed 67 new tax and fee increases into law during California’s latest legislative session. A new report from the California Tax Foundation says these will cost residents and businesses an extra $14.3 BILLION every single year! California already has some of the highest taxes and cost of living in the country. This is why people and businesses keep leaving! Wake up, California. 🥴

Why do California state agencies feel the need to hide science? A confidentiality agreement has been keeping some science secret for years around a major water proposal for the Bay-Delta that faces a key vote at the end of this month.

NEW: After a major Skid Row drug crackdown led to 23 arrests, LA City Councilmember @cd14losangeles, chair of the Homelessness and Health Committee, is demanding answers over reports residents are being blocked from returning to their tents and accessing belongings. “Skid Row residents deserve protection from exploitation and violence, and they deserve dignity and accountability from the institutions responsible for their safety,” Jurado says. Authorities say the operation targeted alleged drug trafficking, with fentanyl, meth, firearms, cash and vehicles seized.

This Sacramento cannabis dispensary says its products are taxed at a RIDICULOUS 38% rate and is demanding an audit of the money. We looked into it ourselves and found that $350 million meant for substance abuse programs instead went to Democrat voter machines! ENOUGH with the fraud. ENOUGH with crushing small business.

Starting today, LA County ties for the highest baseline county sales tax rate in the entire United States at 10.25%. Lancaster and Palmdale, where many of my friends and people I know already struggle to make ends meet, sales tax is now 11.75% - the highest in the state. I still just don’t understand how we keep voting to continuously give more & more money to our local government while services continue to get worse, our politicians continue to give more of our money to their friends, and fraud goes unchecked. How does this actually help everyday Angelenos who have both mom and dad working and sometimes it’s not even enough to support their families? This is not helping our kids. It’s not making schools better. It’s not making roads better or helping with public transit. It’s not making us safer. It’s not making housing more affordable, or food, or gas or utilities. Why do we keep voting for more and more tax increases and worse and worse politicians?

💸 As of tomorrow, Los Angeles County will have the nation's highest sales tax rates, with some cities as high as 11.75% sales tax. Because they don't already have enough money with 14.4% income tax, high property/gas/utility taxes. Highest taxes in the POOREST cities - Palmdale & Lancaster, 16% poverty rates in these desert communities. Now paying 11.75% tax on everything they purchase. I moved to CA in 2013 from New Hampshire, which had 0% sales/income tax, nearly 0 gas tax & vehicle registration fees, but which had next to zero crime, great roads/schools. Why? Because they don't openly STEAL the money. They don't give drug addicted and/or lazy "homeless" people $2 MILLION beachfront condos for life (including all utilities AND HIGH END groceries from stores I won't even step foot in like Bristol Farms)! Unless something changes immediately, California will soon become a state for the extremely rich & the extremely poor, with no middle class to speak of. And once the remaining extremely rich are driven out by taxes to pay for all the extremely poor, it'll become a failed state as there'll be no one left to pay the high taxes.
Santa Monica 11.25% Sales Tax Tomorrow, Oct 1, Santa Monica's sales tax hits 11.25%, the highest in the region. That's a half-cent hike from Measure ER, passed by LA County voters in June. For a typical middle-income household spending around $20,000 a year on taxable goods, dining out, gas, clothes, household items, entertainment, that's about $2,250 a year in sales tax alone. Roughly $188 a month. And this comes on top of the city's own increases over the last 4 years. Water up 20%. Trash up 11% a year. Parking permits nearly doubled, while parking at the promenade has also increased. The city says it's for services. But when every bill, every meter, and every receipt goes up at once, families feel it. They deserve a council that asks whether we're getting value before we ask for more. Santa Monica residents deserve to know exactly where every dollar goes. No more blank checks. No more vague promises. We need real transparency, real audits, and real consequences when money is wasted. That's the accountability our city is missing. Affordability means keeping money in your pocket and letting you decide how to spend it. That's what I'm fighting for as your candidate for Santa Monica City Council. A Higher Standard for Santa Monica Derrick Townsend for Santa Monica City Council

Steve Hilton: “California has become a state where if you do the right thing, you're punished, and if you do the wrong thing, you're rewarded. That is upside down, but that's the story beneath everything, and that's what we need to turn around. That's what this election is actually about.” “There's this Latino couple who wanted me to come and see their business in South Central LA. It's not Skid Row, but it's pretty rough, and it's the usual squalor that I'm afraid we're used to in this city because they don't know how to run the place. But in the middle of all that squalor, this beautiful little store. It's a shoe store, and they've been running it fourteen years. Latino couple. We went in, we were talking, they gave me all the usual things that I'm very familiar with; the taxes, the ridiculous bureaucracy, the permits that get more complicated and costly every year, the electric bill, et cetera. They said, ‘But that's not why we wanted you to come here. Come with me.’ They took me outside. We went for a walk, two city blocks. Could have gone even further. Every single part of the sidewalk: street vendors. You think, ‘Illegal street vendors. What are they selling?’ Shoes and apparel and T-shirts. Just the entire sidewalk. This 14-year business, a lovely little local business, everything spotless, everything clean, exactly what we would want to see, is going out of business because you've got people there that are not paying taxes, not paying electric, not paying rent, not complying with any licensing. And then I said to the guy, ‘When did all this happen? Has this been here all the time you've been here?’ ‘No, it's the last six or seven years.’ I said, ‘Is it something to do with the pandemic?’ ‘No.’ I looked into it. Eight years ago, in 2018, they passed a bill in Sacramento to legalize street vending in California across the state. Cities can't do anything about it. Counties can't do anything about it. What does it tell you when you take that into account?” @SteveHiltonx ------------------------------ Thanks to our partners for making this possible!
