> We have been told for decades that without copyright, there could be no progress
Copyleft was ostensibly intended to increase freedom, yet now many of its milieu mistake the medium for the message.
AI is an apocalypse in the sense that it reveals all. Or it reveals much.
We have mathematicians arguing that solving the problems that they themselves identified as the goals (in their funding applications and talks) never mattered.
We have the finest literary people in France who were collectively fooled by a novel written by AI. None of them would ever accept AI authorship.
We have been told for decades that without copyright, there could be no progress... and all of a sudden, we have these machines producing copyright-free content, often breaking new ground.
We have entire institutions that were supposed to be focused on innovation... that cannot adapt meaningfully to a world with AI.
We are left wondering. What is actual progress and what is mere signalling. How people react to AI tells us much.

Yep. I need code review to catch people editing the deny.toml files. People saying code review is dead haven’t seen most programmers at work.

Has anyone seen the prompts used by these awful reply bots? I'd be fascinated to know how they make their posts so soulless and infuriating
Reply bots: this is your chance! Tell me your prompt and I'll tolerate one additional reply from you without blocking

SF greatly overestimates how much free time your avg person has to use AI
People work all day, they commute, they have families and chores and responsibilities ... and at the end of the day many are mentally and physically exhausted
And they're not gonna unwind by prompting

🗞️ if your team is too busy doing their 'normal job' to experiment with AI, you're preparing them to be replaced

In this post, I guess this's the last time I'll say it. AI use is no longer optional if you wish to be employed. What follows is advice for current employees and hiring managers on how to hire in 2026 to source AI-first candidates.

If :edit or :write is slow (on a very big file), Nvim 0.13 will emit progress events.

TIL the term “free indirect speech”. Will tapped on his phone. Would anyone like his tweet?

Is it me or have the clankers grown more fond than ever of giving you manual instructions that they themselves could trivially do?
I *hate* that and take pleasure in politely instructing them to do it their own damn selves rather than creating make-work for the human! :)

John Oliver says sexualize Liberty Biberty instead of Buck the Kiwi Sheep.
I say, why not both?

Nice demo of Gell-Mann amnesia, for anyone on the Neovim "inside":

Nvim does not (never did) touch Vim's undofiles. Even if you force N/Vim to use the same state directory (bless you), there is no corruption risk because the format has a version code.
Vim undofile "data loss" happens because Vim (VIM!!!) will reset the undofile if an external tool (git, nano) changes the file while Vim is not running.
This person "Chisnall" has been peddling this canard for years, and now even recycles it before the pliable folk of hn+lobsters.

Neovim :help docs in PDF form (autogenerated):

Also, tables are now rendered in HTML/PDF (and :help has basic highlighting for table headings).

These new models are pretty crazy. In an afternoon (mostly passive) + one flight I built an IDE for Python for iOS that runs Pyodide, has a debugger, embeds linter and formatter, pi-durable powered coding agent and does iCloud Drive and all the other things too.
People keep asking me how many times I open neovim a month these days now that AI is around. It's zero
I've been stuck in NeoVim for literally 10 years. Someone please send help. I cannot get out. I'm desperately trying to get out and I can't figure it out. Even the AI is confused. We're both stuck in command mode, in terminal mode, and we can't leave. Nobody knows what the shortcut is. Help please. Help, help, help.
