Sunil gavaskar sir recently said left right combination is perfect at 5
Someone should ask Gavaskar sir why the left-right combination is never such a big concern while deciding the opening pair, No. 3 or No. 4, but suddenly becomes so important at No. 5.
Ricky Ponting was one of the greatest captains in cricket history yet he never made such left-right combinations an obsession.
This is nothing but hypocrisy.
KL Rahul has already proved his credentials as a batter. He started as an opener, was moved to No. 4, then No. 5, and now there are discussions about pushing him to No. 6.
How many positions does a proven batter have to adapt to?
The management is potentially wasting the abilities of one of India's most versatile batters instead of giving him a consistent role.

KL Rahul might not bat again in this ODI series, and every time there is a gap between him playing ODIs, or someone else performs, people start doubting his place in the team, which has to stop
He deserves more respect in this format of the game, and it should be mixed with other formats. And with the World Cup in Africa and not Asia, he should be the number 5. No questions.
Firstly, being a Test opener and middle-order player is an extreme contrast, and he juggles between both
Secondly, he has been incredibly consistent. 50+ average in ODIs.
His record at number 5 and below is only second to ABD in ODI history
Thirdly, he also keeps getting pushed to number 5 and 6
And he either gets to bat as a finisher in the 40th over or walks out to bat and has to accelerate from the start, like today; he walks out when there is a collapse and has to rebuild, and very consistently has done both jobs brilliantly
Lastly, a lot of people are stuck on 19/11 and his knock that day. He was a convenient scapegoat. Obviously, his knock was poor but there was a lot of context

Opening the batting in tests in England and Australia against the swinging red ball, to being the crisis lower order finisher in ODIs under alien conditions, when KL Rahul retires his stats might not do justice to the fact how crucial he has been for Team India over the years.

KL Rahul has to be one of the most comfortable Indian batters on difficult overseas pitches. The technique, the composure and the calmness he brings to the crease are simply outstanding. A pleasure to watch him bat. @klrahul
