Can you tell me who gave you what last Diwali? I am sure you will draw a blank...or nearly so What’s a Diwali gift people remember even 20 years later? We spend time choosing sweets and accessories but do the recipients remember them even a few months later? I’ve always believed in gifts that leave a lasting impression. 📚 This Diwali, what if you gifted someone a book instead? 'Money, Myths and Mantras' could be a great start to understanding money and investing. If you want to bulk order it, send a DM right away to @firstglobalsec And of course you can order some other books. Because those are the only gifts that are remembered decades later.

Sharing some good news - getting The Most Powerful Women award from Business Today - this time for 2026 Sharing with your tribe is actually the only fun of any achievement... And of course you need the blessings of your elders and your gurus. And the best part is the joy from old teachers, old neighbours, family friends, parents and siblings of friends...people you may not have met for decades but who take such joy in your achievements Truly blessed to have many such in my life 🙏🙏🙏 Also in a broader sense while at IIM and in the earlier years of my career I thought all achievements were gender agnostic and I never underlined the woman part, now I do because I realise girls and young women do not have enough role models... And so many young women come up and say that "You are an inspiration that it can be done"... So now I take that role a bit seriously especially as women's causes have been close to my heart since age 10 Wearing a saree with a craft from my hometown and bangles gifted by a school friend to represent my roots and my friends and family... Because they are all a part of where I reached One of the highlights of the evening for me was this conversation with the captain and vice captain of the gold medal winning women's hockey team (which happened after some four plus decades)... And happened after a set back where they did not even qualify for the Olympics Navneet Kaur, the vice captain said that she regularly stands in front of the mirror and tells herself in Punjabi: "Navneet Kaur, there is no one better than you. You are the best." There was also the captain of the gold medal winning kabaddi team I thought there was the best panel of the evening As an aside all three of them said their favourite movie was Chak De 😄 Even the captain of the hockey team comes from a village where even till date there is no mobile signal. She used to go for her hockey practice sitting behind her father on a bicycle But she said she had this vision that she would excel in hockey All of them manifested the visions that the first had in their heads... Which is a lesson for all of us as most of us face neither their starting challenges nor the going head to head with the best in the world. Kudos to our champion sports people 👏👏👏 @business_today @firstglobalsec @fghumsmallcase

Can a book about opium also be about business? In 'Smoke and Ashes' by Amitav Ghosh uncovers the surprising links between opium, colonial power, global trade and fortunes across the world from the Indian subcontinent to Eastern United States. Higher profit margins always mean a better business. Right? Not necessarily. Two companies can operate in the same industry but follow very different business models. To understand which business is performing better, you need to look beyond profit margins. How? Watch this video to understand Want to comprehend financial ratios and analyse businesses better? A high ROE may look impressive, but I always believe in looking beyond the number. What’s driving it? Strong profit margins, efficient use of assets, or borrowed money? The answer can tell us a lot about a company and the risks behind its returns. In investing, understanding how a company generates returns matters just as much as the returns themselves. Have a question about analysing a company’s financials? DM @firstglobalsec

Can an old book explain today's businesses and even stock market scams? 🤔 This Friday, I’m recommending 'Business Adventures' by John Brooks, a book praised by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. Its stories reveal how patterns repeat across decades. One story even brings to mind the Harshad Mehta scam. Different times. Similar mistakes. Human behaviour rarely changes. 📩 Want to make more informed investment decisions? DM @firstglobalsec

What is the biggest investing mistake YOU are making? For almost every investor it is the same: Not consciously deciding their asset allocation. And even before that comes not KNOWING your asset allocation. For almost everyone, asset allocation happens by default, not via a plan... Yet this is what determines almost all your investment returns 🤔 It starts with a simple question: Do you actually know how your portfolio is currently allocated? If you don't, your investment returns over the years will drift away from your goals and your nest egg will suffer! Asset allocation isn’t about predicting exactly what each asset class will do. It’s about understanding your current allocation, knowing your risk, and making conscious decisions about where your money should be invested. This is the first step towards building a portfolio that can help you stay on course. 💬Do you know your current asset allocation? Share your thoughts in the comments or DM @firstglobalsec 👉Like, share, and subscribe so you don't miss the next episode. #InvestingGuideByDevina

Why YOU need Global investing You must be hearing some influencers and fund managers talking about global investing now…so why should you invest outside India? Is it because the Indian markets won't do well as some people are telling you? That is not the reason - take it from someone who went Global 27 years ago. My message has been CONSISTENT. From rupee depreciation to market concentration, this video explains why global investing isn’t about chasing fashion. It’s about protecting and growing your long-term wealth. The dollar was 12 rupees when I started working and 75 rupees in 2022. To learn how to invest you can send a DM to @firstglobalsec right away.

Why do we keep falling for the same financial bubbles? Tulip mania. The South Sea Bubble. Dot-com. NFTs. Different times. Different assets. But the pattern stays the same. That’s why 'A Short History of Financial Euphoria' by John Kenneth Galbraith is a perennial favorite...and one that I quote from every so often. What makes investors jump into a bubble even when they know it’s a bubble? Watch the video to find out. Need help making sense of markets and your investments? DM @firstglobalsec

What if the “next big theme” isn’t where you should be looking? Investors often rush towards what’s already working. But markets change. And by the time a theme becomes popular, the easy opportunity may already be gone. So, should you avoid themes altogether? Or is there a smarter way to approach them? Watch my series on common investing mistakes, link in the thread below. If you’re unsure how to build a portfolio without getting caught in the latest investment trend, DM @firstglobalsec or email us at [email protected]

Why did RBI raise rates when growth is already under pressure? Consumption is weak. Rural incomes are slow. The economy sure does not seen to be overheating. So why raise rates now? The answer goes beyond India. Global rates, foreign capital and the Rupee all matter. But what does this mean for the stock market? And should investors be worried? I explain the bigger picture in this video - without your getting lost in the jargon. If you need help understanding market moves and their impact on your portfolio, DM @firstglobalsec
