THE ‘MASHUJAA’ ASSIGNMENT The ones we crowned Mashujaa today were not necessarily favorites in their own time: hunted in the forests, chained at Kapenguria, written off as troublesome, and castigated as dreamers. They were only refusing the limits of their age, pushing at a wall until it became a door. The wall still stands. It has new names. Equity, so that where you were born does not decide how far you go. Prosperity, so that work pays, and the farmer, the trader, the young coder, anyone within borders, eat from what they build. Unity, so that we walk one road as one people; more as one nation. Innovation, so that Kenya and Kenyans too can shine with solutions for problems far beyond borders. None of it comes by wishing. It comes by reporting to duty with diligence, by discipline when no one is watching, by doing the next hard thing, and the next, until the impossible becomes reality. Every age needs someone to walk first into the dark and hold the light steady, to choose the harder road and say: here is a way. In our time, H.E. President Dr. @WilliamsRuto, CGH has carried that light to the front, calling a nation to Usawa and pushing for reforms others feel should be left for later. So the work continues. It is the assignment. Each of us is handed a piece of it to execute. ‘Ask not what your country can do for you. But rather ask what you can do for your country.’ That’s the take home from Mashujaa Day showcased marvelously by the ‘Champions’. Well done Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet and Uasin Gishu!

Happy Mazingira Day! Today we planted 10,000 trees at Pap Kakan, Alego Usonga, Siaya County. This builds on the 20,000 fruit tree seedlings we distributed in Siaya County with H.E. First Lady @MamaRachelRuto, EGH on 8th September 2026, in the same spirit of conservation that also grows the economy of our families and households. I also urged Kenya Forest Officers and the National Government Administrative Officers for doubled efforts to conserve the Got Abiero and Got Ramogi natural forests, so that indigenous species cover these gazetted hills. These initiatives happening across the country are spearheaded by H.E President Dr. @WilliamsRuto, CGH; whose agenda targets planting of 15 Billion trees in 10 years.

H.E. President Dr. @WilliamsRuto, CGH this morning inspected the construction and equipping of the 26 bed Maternal and 54 bed Newborn Ward at Endebess Sub-County Hospital, Trans Nzoia County. This KES 248.8 million investment is about one thing: that every mother in Endebess gives birth safely, and every newborn gets the best start in life, close to home. Under the National Equipment Support Programme (NESP), Endebess now has a working ultrasound and laboratory. Mothers can get scans and tests here instead of travelling long distances. Kijana Wamalwa Level 5 Hospital and Bondeni Health Centre have also received equipment that is installed and serving patients, a total of KES 40 million in Trans Nzoia. And more is possible with county government request. Through the Social Health Authority, Government has paid KES 2.36 billion to health facilities in Trans Nzoia. This money is keeping our hospitals running and serving wananchi. Sadly, only 43.5% of residents in Trans Nzoia are registered with SHA, against 69.7% nationally. More than 559,000 residents are not yet covered. We call on every family, leader, Community Health Promoter and citizen in Trans Nzoia to make registration a priority by Dialing *147# today.

HEALTH INFRASTRUCTURE FINANCING: NAIROBI Early morning, I held an enlightening conversation with Dr. @benchitunga (Dr. Benard Chitunga) - Chancellor Cooperative University of Kenya and seniour executive at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, on proposals for expanding health infrastructure as a basis for ensuring services are available. On that note, the Chancellor informed the State Department for Medical Services that the Cooperative University was advanced in the design of Teaching, Research and Referal Hospital as part of foundation to establish medical and nursing training and research. We also explored opportunities for financing health infrastructure across the country guaranteed by the robust, stable, predictable and sustainable model we have in the Social Health Authority. Dr. Chitunga remains an astute globally accomplished mind and expert in designing and structuring financing. We are the better for his support and panoramic view of financing landscape.

EDUCATION SUMMIT: MASENO UNIVERSITY Education is a key engine of national development. At today's Regional Education Summit at Maseno University, the full breadth of Kenya's education leadership convened as one: KICD, KLB and KNEC amongst others; Directors of Basic Education; university council members; tens of Vice-Chancellors and leading professors; and the teachers' unions, led by KNUT Secretary-General Collins Oyuu and KUPPET Secretary-General Akelo Misori. Together we deliberated on strengthening education institutions and initiatives to transform the communities it serves. Alongside PSs CPA Carren Ageng'o (Children Services), Aurelia Rono (Parliamentary Services) and Cyrell Odede (Public Investments and Asset Management), I called on universities to transform how they train, producing skills for the future and the talent needed to deliver quality services in sectors such as healthcare. I also took the chance to outline H.E. President @WilliamsRuto’s health reform agenda being delivered by the @MOH_Kenya. The education sector must drive health innovation through research as well as mobilize its vast community of parents, learners, teachers and staff to benefit from SHA by registering and paying premiums; integrate on ongoing EWENE campaigns to reduce maternal mortality and realign the training to health reform priorities.

MARANDA HIGH SCHOOL VISIT, SIAYA COUNTY. I had the privilege of returning to my former school, Maranda High School, where I spent time with the students and shared a message of hope, purpose, discipline, and service. Returning to the institution that played an important role in shaping my journey was deeply meaningful. I encouraged the students to believe in themselves, pursue excellence, remain disciplined, and prepare themselves to become responsible leaders who will serve their communities and our nation with distinction. The future of our country rests in the hands of our young people. We must continue to inspire them, equip them with knowledge and values, and give them the confidence to dream boldly and work diligently to turn those dreams into reality.

KANG’O KA JARAMOGI: RAILA ANNIVERSARY Led by Deputy Chief of Staff Josphat Nanok, today we were at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi to make final preparations ahead of Raila Anniversary events. Grateful to His Excellency President Dr. @WilliamsRuto, CGH and Mama Dr. @IdaOdinga, EGH for the honour to serve in the orgnaization of the Official 1st Year Anniversary and unveiling of the Mausoleum of Former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Baba Raila Amolo Odinga. The loss of Raila Odinga, nearly a year ago, still hurts my heart now as it did on the fateful 15th October, 2025. That he was buried on my birthday is a permanent mark of remembrance. I’m privileged and grateful to work on his post-humous legacy, not less for the much inspiration and nurture of public service that I owe to him.

UHC: A POLITICAL CHOICE The World Health Organization has long asserted that the single most essential ingredient needed to overcome systemic barriers, mobilize domestic resources and align multi sectoral sectors and partners for the achievement of universal health coverage is political commitment. At the global stage, world leaders and heads of state are encouraged to make health very deliberate political choice aligning with the fundamental need to anchor health as a right and economic development prerequisite. Demonstrating Kenya’s case on political commitment driving delivery of reforms, PS Medical Services Dr. Oluga told a global audience of more than 500 international chief executives that there can be no better proof than President of Kenya His Excellency Dr. William Ruto speaking about health every single day of his leadership.

I sat down with @fnoluga for a candid conversation on his journey so far to PS @MOH_Kenya. It was raw, intense and emotional. You’ll get to see a side of the fiery former @kmpdu Secretary General that keeps him grounded.
Coming up: The untold story of Dr Ouma Oluga. “I was always last, if not near last.” Before he became Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr Ouma Oluga (@fnoluga) was a boy who repeatedly finished near the bottom of his class. His journey would take him through personal loss, medical practice, healthcare workers’ advocacy, controversy, prison, and, eventually, into the corridors where decisions about Kenya’s health system are made. What shaped the man behind the public office? Watch his full story on White Coat Diaries this Wednesday, September 16, 2026, on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/@WillowHealthMed… @DrMercyKorir #WhiteCoatDiaries

"Finance is the fuel of the system." The first premise of Kenya's health reform: stable, predictable and sustainable financing mechanism from our own resources that aligns with population health needs. That is why the Social Health Authority exists. #ReformsDelivered #SHA

Principal Secretary for Medical Services Ouma Oluga says Kenya must reduce its dependence on foreign funding for healthcare and build a sustainable system financed through domestic resources. He says the focus should be on diseases that cause the highest number of deaths and those that push families into poverty through costly treatment, including Malaria, TB, HIV, Diabetes and Cancer. #HomeOfHardTruths
