We has started a tutorial series covering various aspects of LichtFeld Studio!
Over the next few videos, Kristof will focus on editing, starting with basic navigation, followed by tutorials introducing the different editing tools and, eventually, how to use them together in a real project.
Our goal is to cover all aspects of LichtFeld Studio over time.
Enjoy the first two videos, and please let us know what you think! Feedback and suggestions for future topics are always welcome.
Please like and subscribe to our channel if that's helpful

Release: LichtFeld Studio v0.5.4 is out!
With many commits from 26 contributors merged into master, v0.5.4 brings projects, an online gallery, faster training and lower VRAM usage.
Release overview video:
youtube.com/watch?v=DIcGFMeB…
WHAT’S NEW IN v0.5.4
• Projects and Project Manager
The native .licht project format we promised for the next release is here. A project keeps datasets, checkpoints, trained models, scene edits, camera paths and workspace layouts together, so you can reopen it to continue training, refine a scene or export your work.
The new Project Manager lets you browse, search, filter, preview and organise local and external projects, with autosave, save points and recovery after interrupted sessions.
• Online Gallery beta for all portal users
Publish projects directly from LichtFeld Studio to the online gallery with a title, description, thumbnail, camera view and presentation settings. Keep working locally, republish updates to the same scene and sync gallery-side changes back. Large scenes stream as SSOG.
The gallery is in beta testing for all portal users, so we would love your feedback.
• Faster training and lower VRAM
Up to 3× faster training than v0.5.3, lower VRAM usage in training and the viewer, better control of peak memory, faster loading of large PLY files and 3DGS models, and more memory-efficient compaction and export for very large scenes.
• Normal-guided training
Normal priors, generated automatically when missing, add geometric guidance alongside color and help with ambiguous structure, challenging surfaces and thin structures.
Depth and normal supervision now also work with 3DGUT and fisheye cameras.
• Training improvements
MRNF gains far-field reconstruction and better opacity handling, pruning, initialisation and resume behaviour. GUT improves reconstruction quality, exposure correction and undistortion.
Other improvements include better appearance correction and sky handling, transparent images composited against the training background, improved EXR support and more camera models for fisheye lenses and complex distortion.
• A smoother experience
Heavy operations are less likely to block the interface, while the viewport avoids unnecessary redraws and has better frame pacing when idle.
Editing improvements include clearer selection feedback, better brushes, crop boxes, depth filters, scene-tree operations and undo/redo. Unicode paths, Windows file handling and Wayland support have also been improved.
• Presentation and export
A richer HTML viewer with labels, multiple measurements, screenshots and VR-oriented interaction.
Expanded and faster PLY, SOG, SSOG, SPZ, USD, glTF and GLB support, plus better video extraction, camera paths and headless rendering.
AVAILABILITY AND SUPPORT
This release will be available to all supporters as a Windows binary via the portal in about an hour (Slow CI):
portal.lichtfeld.io/
At the same time, LichtFeld Studio remains free and open source under GPLv3 and can also be built directly from source.
Please consider supporting the ongoing development of LichtFeld Studio through a donation via the portal or the supporters page.
THANK YOU
Thank you to everyone who supports this project financially, contributes code, reports bugs, provides datasets, helps with the website, and contributes in countless other ways.
A special thank you to our foundational sponsor Core11, and our Gold Sponsor Volinga. Thank you as well to every donor and to all of our Bronze Sponsors.
LOOKING AHEAD TO v0.5.5
The next iteration toward v0.5.5 focuses on integrating structure from motion (SfM), so you can go from images straight to a trained and published scene, all inside LichtFeld Studio.
Hint: We do not yet have a Silver Sponsor or Platinum Sponsor and an Infrastructure Sponsor😀

Real multi view ports have an initial implementation. This will certainly help with editing... anyway love to have that in a splat software.

LichtFeld Studio got a LiDAR.
@TersusGNSS just sent us an MVP S1 and is now sponsoring LichtFeld Studio with hardware.
360° LiDAR, two 48 MP cameras, RTK, under 1 kg.
Splats with real scale, real orientation, and real-world coordinates. I have wanted this for a long time.
Direct MVP S1 support is coming. This will enable real-world splats straight out of LichtFeld Studio.

Preview: LichtFeld is slowly pivoting towards an end-to-end pipeline.
Where traditional SfM pipelines fail, our SLAM-based dense reconstruction runs in real time at 30 FPS and 1920 px.
Four minutes of capture condensed into one.
Dense point cloud and camera poses from a single monocular walk with a DJI Osmo Action 4.
Thanks for the big shoutout you gave me 🔥
LichtFeld Studio Session 3:
Kristof is back from two weeks off and finds 174 commits waiting.
Janusch walks through what changed: the new preferences tab (@franzipol's work), the master/dev split for 0.5.4 and 0.6, SAM2 running natively in LichtFeld, and the big one: the integration of the LichtFeld Studio online gallery.

Big step for LichtFeld Studio.
Kristof Meirlaen will work part-time on LichtFeld Studio from September through December 2026.
Kristof is the second most active contributor to the project, and honestly, if you follow us, you have seen his work already: a steady stream of fixes and quality-of-life improvements all over the application, a sharp eye for finding and reporting bugs, help with planning and the UI, and YouTube tutorials that make it much easier to get started.
Now he finally gets dedicated time for it, and I could not be happier about that.
What will he do? Test the software, prioritize bugs, and set clear milestones so the team and our contributors always know what comes next. Keep contributing fixes and implementation work. Make LichtFeld Studio easier to use and enjoy. And grow our documentation, tutorials, and community content.
One thing you will notice right away: starting next week, we will run regular live streams with project updates. Tune in and see where LichtFeld Studio is heading youtube.com/@LichtFeldStudio
A huge thank you to our main sponsor Core11 GmbH (core11.eu), who is funding Kristof's position. Without them, this would simply not happen.
And that is the honest truth about open source at this scale: it needs financial backing to sustain and accelerate. If LichtFeld Studio creates value for you or your company, consider supporting the project: lichtfeld.io/contribute/
Or support us by buying access to the ready-to-run binaries via portal.lichtfeld.io/
Every contribution goes directly into development time and keeps the project moving.
