I don't expect humanity to ever reach a level of technological development in which real-world problems can be magically solved with silver bullets. New problems and challenges will keep rising from old ones.

What it will never do is try to reason out of unique worst-case scenarios. Unusual code is sometimes needed to address circumstantial requirements that don't necessarily follow the same performance strategies elsewhere in the project.

It may try to be smart and write some asynchronous code. But while time is a valuable performance indicator, it isn't the only one. Sometimes what you need the most is to reduce the compute costs of your code. In that case, this function is the least performant of the three.

Most often the AI will write this code for you. If the second expensive lookup is needed 50% of the time, this code is highly inefficient. On average, it will spend the most time of all three options and have the second highest compute costs.

The things agentic AI will not do for you. Number 1 - Controlling Performance Tradeoffs If you have an expensive lookup function that is dependant on sentinel values, you will likely run into a performance tradeoff and need to decide what's the best option based on your requirements.

Imagine the power that people with this type of sociopathic behavior will have if the governments of the world indeed regulate and limit access to this technology. They will be the only ones with full access to its potential and deciding who has access to what and in which capacity. It's mind boggling that we should consider that future as acceptable.

yes. it was always going to be this way. we tried to warn the world.

If someone were to ask me right now, without allowing me to look it up, what's the difference between a class and a struct, I would hands down give an unsatisfactory reply. And yet, if they asked me how would I approach designing a Job-Shop Scheduler for a weighted directed cyclic graph, I would hands down teach them a thing or two about problem solving. Who's the target of this press release? My deceased grandma? Are these people trolling us at this point?
Let me ask a more profound question: What kind of authorities are we building in the hyper-sensitive domain of online security, without clearly defined, precise regulations and continuous, effective auditing practices to ensure these institutions are accountable, transparent, and actually fit for purpose? In plain English: What the fuck are we doing!?
