In May I attended a homeowner hosted meeting for W Newport Ave neighbors discussing Landmarking their block. The architecturally cohesive neighborhood is under threat from developers. My photo shows how a teardown [& new construction w/o regard] was an alarm & call to action. ⬇️
West Lakeview landmarking push pits preservation against property values chicagobusiness.com/real-est…
Neighbors looking to preserve the character explored Landmarking - invited @Pres_Chicago in to discuss pros/cons at forums. Owners were polled & a majority approved, Alderperson engaged, more discussion. Nov 5th, the Commission on Chicago Landmarks will review the submission.
The silks of Peter Brant on Haffner! Another Aidan O'Brien & Ryan Moore teaming for victory. Ownership of Coolmore, Peter Brant, and Brook Smith.
Irad Ortiz Jr breaks his ankle last week and today brother Jose gets tossed in the 5th, Breeders' Cup undercard race, and possibly off all mounts today. That is some seriously bad racing luck. I hope Jose is ok 🙏 (Brian Hernandez also tossed was up and seemingly doing well.)
Amazing @jose93_ortiz riding his BC mounts today & has been on the bike in the jocks room. That’s tough! 💪🏇
If you are curious about the efforts by The Skyscraper Guy (Tom) & the Pittsfield Building's [tallest building in Chicago when completed] future why not go to this event tomorrow? Free but RSVP (space limitations) link: skyscraperguy.com/rsvp/
Here’s what $4M in Old Town gets you. Listed today, this c1894 gem. The very nice owner showed me the outdoor area & the coach house two yrs ago during the OT Art Fair. My photos then. redf.in/t479mO

He may be the leader of the Catholic church, but Chicago-born Pope Leo XIV is still a registered voter in Illinois and requested a mail ballot for the midterm elections.

I know the history of this castle for Otto Herman Kahn [hence OHEKA] by architecture firm Delano & Aldrich exceedingly well. Once owned by NYC’s sanitation workers as a retirement home (photo below) & later Eastern Military Academy. That price is utterly bonkers economically!
Oheka Castle has a new buyer after receiving a winning bid of $72 million at a private auction Tuesday.
Gold Coast Property & Estate Management LLC, led by developers Ronald Browning and Paul Alflen, outbid six other bidders for the iconic Huntington mansion.
Longtime co-owner Gary Melius, who purchased the property in 1984, said he will continue living at the castle and managing operations.
The new owners also plan to develop portions of the property, with rights for up to 95 condominiums.
The sale is pending approval from a federal bankruptcy court.

Jockey Conor Tierney aboard Alottacents was tossed off during the Steeplethon Stakes (R2) at the hedge jump during the 89th Int’l Gold Cup Races at Great Meadow (VA). Conor went onto win R3 & R7 👏🏇
Former Greek Church (c1912) converted to residential luxe compound (very cool inside & out) in Lincoln Park always does elaborate Halloween horror displays. This year it’s based upon The Odyssey. At night it’s illuminated and more spooky.
I see that a lot of heavy machinery is working away at Foundry Park (nee Lincoln Yards - north end) but why didn’t they save the A Finkl & Sons Co. archway sign? 🤔 From June 2024
The likely loss in Lenox, MA of "Spring Lawn" (c1904) by architect Guy Lowell due to intentional neglect - then claiming its too far gone and must be razed - ticks me off. Even the developer's study of the estate's condition rather rubs me the wrong way ⬇️; my photos (2012)
Meeting for today postponed to Oct 27. The Historical Commission will take testimony & decide whether Spring Lawn (& 2 other structures on site) slated for demolition should be designated “Preferably Preserved.” Such a determination would trigger Lenox’s 12-month demolition delay
Since Castleton Lyon (Lexington KY) won’t be sold conventionally it will be offered at auction this Wed (Oct 28) - images I took this morning. I suspect it will not be sold.
Castleton Lyon is a remarkable beautiful Lexington Farm. The Ryanair cofounding family raced Gio Ponti ❤️ 🎁 link: wsj.com/real-estate/luxury-h…
