TAMIL NADU NEEDS EXPERTS FROM DIVERSE FIELDS IN POLITICS—not more actors! - OPINION
We know how excessively Tamil Nadu celebrates its film stars.
But Vijay’s success was not merely about celebrity appeal. The timing of his entry and his ideological positioning were crucial.
By embracing Tamil Nadu’s cherished ideals of social justice, equality, secularism and state rights, and declaring the BJP his ideological opponent, he offered millions of voters—disillusioned with corruption, arrogance, favouritism and dynastic politics—a viable alternative to the two Dravidian parties.
The timing was significant. Millions who had mechanically alternated between the two Dravidian parties in the name of upholding those principles suddenly found another viable choice. They were ready to embrace a new 'winnable party' promising the same ideals.
This shift was also fuelled by growing disillusionment with institutionalised corruption, favouritism, arrogance and, most recently, the projection of Udhayanidhi as the political heir.
Vijay’s success should not be mistaken for a licence for every actor to launch a political party and aspire to become Chief Minister through a shortcut!
They may be disappointed to discover that Periyar’s land is awakening to the need for more than celebrity appeal.
Actors who genuinely wish to serve the people should follow the same route as experts from other fields: join an established political party, contest elections, prove their worth as MLAs or MPs, and earn their way up through experience and public service.
Tamil Nadu has given its film stars extraordinary public attention and acceptance. They should reciprocate with humility.
No more actor-led political start-ups seeking the CM’s chair through lateral entry!

OPINION:
Periyar strongly supported Kamaraj as CM (1954–63) because he translated Periyar’s ideals of social justice and equality into action.
Congress and DK shared common ground on these ideals.
Though atheism was a point of difference, it need not be a prerequisite for advancing social justice in today's changed context.
Some DK cadres even contested as Congress candidates in 1957, drawing criticism from Rajaji's faction.
Periyarists, particularly those in Dravidian parties, should reflect on this history.
At a time when these parties face allegations of corruption and "double standards", those committed to Periyar's ideals could consider working with Congress under Kharge and Rahul Gandhi to take social justice and equality across India.
Strengthening the Congress party is a prerequisite for strengthening our democracy and defeating fascism once and for all!

இப்படி இரட்டை நிலைப்பாட்டுடன் கொள்கைக்கு அவமதிப்பு ஏற்படுத்திய நடப்புக்காக திராவிட இயக்க தமிழர் பேரவைத் தலைவர் பேராசிரியர் சுப.வீரபாண்டியன், டாக்டர் செந்தில்குமார் (முன்னாள் எம்.பி.) ஆகியோர் சமூக வலைத்தளத்தில் வெளியிட்டுள்ள செய்தியில் ‘இதயம் வலிக்கிறது’ என்றும், ‘கொள்கைப் பிடிப்புள்ள ஓர் இயக்கத்தில், இப்படி நடப்பதற்கு மனம் உடன்படவில்லை’ என்றும் தமது கருத்துகளை மென்மையாக தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்!
இதன்மூலமே இச்செய்தி அறிந்த நாம், பெரிதும் வேதனையும், வெட்கமும் அடைகிறோம்.

புரோகித முறையில்தான் தங்கள் வீட்டுத் திருமணம் நடைபெறும் நிலை உள்ளது என்றால், அதற்கேன் தி.மு.க. தலைவர் தலைமையில் அவர் நடத்தி வைப்பதுபோல், திராவிட இயக்கத் தலைவர்கள் படமும் போட்ட அழைப்பிதழ் எதற்காக?
அதுவும், தி.மு.க.வில் இரண்டாவது பொறுப்பில் உள்ள நமது அன்பிற்குரிய பொதுச்செயலாளர் இல்ல நிகழ்வில், தி.மு.க. தலைவருக்கும், இயக்கத்திற்கு இந்த இரட்டை செயல்முறை மூலம் இழுக்கைத் தேடித் தரலாமா?
நண்பர் துரைமுருகன் சுமார் 45 ஆண்டுகளுக்குமேல் தி.மு.க.வில் உள்ளவர். நாடறிந்தவர். அவரது பொது வாழ்க்கைக்கே இது ஒரு தீராத களங்கம் அல்லவா? ஒரு குடம் பாலானால் என்ன? ஒரு துளி (ஆரிய) விஷம் பட்டால்! ‘பாலின் வெண்மையா பேசப்படும்! சற்று சிந்தித்திருக்க வேண்டாமா?
தனி மனிதர்களைவிட இயக்கம் முக்கியம், இயக்கத்தைவிட கொண்ட கொள்கை, லட்சியம் மிக முக்கியம் அல்லவா? கட்டு்ப்பாடு அவற்றைவிட மிக முக்கியம்.
புரோகிதத் திருமணம்தான் என்றால், அதனை அறிவு நாணயத்துடன் தலைவரிடம் தெரிவித்து, அந்த வழியில் வெளிப்படையாக நடத்தியிருக்கலாமே!
75 ஆண்டுகால திராவிட முன்னேற்றக் கழகம், வெறும் அரசியல் கட்சி அல்ல; பகுத்தறிவு, சுயமரியாதைக் கொள்கைகளைச் செயல்படுத்திட, ஆட்சியைப் பயன் படுத்துவது என்ற உறுதியுடன் உருவான தனித்தன்மையான ஒன்றாகும். அறிஞர் அண்ணா, கலைஞர் போன்ற தலைவர்கள் பாதை போட்டுத் தந்த இயக்கம்.
🔸சுயமரியாதைத் திருமண முறையைத் தந்தை பெரியார் அறிமுகப்படுத்தினார்; முதலமைச்சர் அண்ணா சட்ட வடிவம் கொடுத்தார்
பார்ப்பனப் புரோகிதர்களை, சமஸ்கிருத மந்திரங்களைத் தவிர்த்து, சுயமரியாதைத் திருமண முறையை அறிமுகப்படுத்தியவர் தந்தை பெரியார். தாம் முதலமைச்சராகப் பொறுப்பிலிருந்த குறுகிய ஆட்சிக் காலத்திலும் அதற்குச் சட்ட அங்கீகாரம் பெற்றுத் தந்து, அதனைத் தம் முத்தான மூன்று வரலாற்றுச் சாதனைகளுள் ஒன்றாக நிறுவியவர் அறிஞர் அண்ணா. அவர்களைத் தலைவர்களாகக் கொண்ட இயக்கத்தின் பொதுச்செயலாளர் பொறுப்பில் இருப்பவர், அக்கொள்கையில் இருந்து வழுவலாமா?
எனவே, இதனை திராவிடர் கழகம் வன்மையாகக் கண்டிக்கிறது. எது கிடைக்கும், தி.மு.க.வைத் தாக்க என்று காத்திருக்கும் எதிரிகளுக்கு, இப்படிப்பட்ட செய்தி, வெறும் வாய்க்குக் கிடைத்த அவல் போன்றதுதானே?

The Fourth Estate expressing such strong opinions on crucial matters is essential to sustaining our democracy.
However, the media could have sustained much stronger scrutiny of the 2023 Act, which gave the ruling establishment a decisive advantage in the selection of Election Commissioners.
The judiciary, too, failed to provide timely intervention on the constitutional concerns raised against the Act.
The larger issue is the structural weakness of a system that relies almost entirely on the ECI to establish the electoral will of 140 crore people, without an independent institutional mechanism to audit its functioning.
Had effective oversight mechanisms existed, many of the present concerns could perhaps have been identified and addressed much earlier, saving the country considerable time, public resources and institutional credibility.
Democracy requires not just independent institutions, but also effective checks and balances to ensure their independence and accountability.

At least now, the DK is showing some courage before the DMK makes its decision.
#Seeman, in my view, lacks the ideological consistency and practical political vision required to lead Tamil Nadu.
Many of his beliefs are outdated, unrealistic and detached from ground realities.
He might serve society better by returning to cinema and entertaining people, or by stepping away from electoral politics and taking up a role similar to Vatal Nagaraj of Karnataka, championing issues concerning Tamils.

INTERESTING: What electoral impact the ‘vote chori’ campaign will have remains uncertain. But it certainly seems to have given a new lease of life to the Congress’s frontal organisations, particularly the Seva Dal. Haven’t seen Seva Dal workers, led by @srinivasiyc, playing such a visible role in mobilising and organising party workers in a long time. Today's public impeachment of Mr Gyanesh Kumar, CEC, was a historic and unprecedented event.
MPs belonging to the Opposition parties in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and civil society organisations and students, had perforce to gather in the garden of Mr Kharge's official residence and speak to the people. WhIch they did.
They spoke loud and clear, eloquently, cogently and passionately.
The voices that were heard today will echo and re-echo throughout the country.

DMKians never hesitate to claim credit for every development in Tamil Nadu, conveniently ignoring Kamaraj’s monumental contributions and the successive efforts of ADMK governments under different CMs.
The truth is, had DMK not institutionalised corruption across governance and shown greater concern for protecting the poor from alcohol addiction, Tamil Nadu could have progressed much closer to becoming a developed state!

It goes a long way towards addressing the distress caused by such a humiliating experience and restoring the victim’s dignity.
It also helps rebuild public confidence in the face of concerns arising from the incident.
Hopefully, this will serve as a reminder to all concerned of the need to exercise responsibility, sensitivity and due care in the discharge of their duties.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay meets MIDS Professor Kalaiarasan, who was harassed by Tambaram police over a social media post falsely linked to him.
Earlier, Tamil Nadu Minister Nirmal Kumar admitted that the local police handling the case had committed a lapse.
In his complaint seeking DGP’s intervention Prof Kalaiarasan wrote “I felt deeply harassed and humiliated by the way I was treated, without being given even a reasonable opportunity to explain myself.”
The EC must proactively enrol every eligible voter. Deleting voters en masse to weed out a few ineligible ones, then demanding proof from all, reverses its constitutional responsibility.
This is not what the Constitution entrusts the EC to do.

Why @arivalayam should voluntarily back @Seeman4TN in the Ambasamudram bypoll:
1. Supporting Seeman could earn DMK goodwill among 4% NTK voters voters who oppose both TVK and Congress.
2. Even if Seeman joins the NDA in 2029, DMK’s support in bypoll could influence 4% NTK voters to stay with Dmk instead of supporting NDA. Waiting until 2029 may only strengthen Seeman's bargaining power.
3. Vijay is reaching out to the Nadar community by naming schemes after Kamaraj, backing Seeman could help DMK reinforce its own social base in the South TN.
Today’s politics is increasingly shaped by the TVK vs anti-TVK equation. Old ideological rivalries and past insults to Periyar and Dravidam need not dictate future alliances.
Politics is about arithmetic, not sentiment.
