I can’t even begin to convey how disingenuous it is to describe this as a “flip”.
Ridiculous that the media uses such a blatantly inappropriate term, even if it is “technically” correct.
Republican state Sen. Brent Taylor will win in Tennessee's redrawn 9th District, CNN projects, flipping a seat that was long held by Democrats. Follow live updates. cnn.it/4A54ZDS
Just like in NC, Republicans love long-running and far-reaching executive powers, until they decide it’s not a privilege that another party representative should enjoy.
So why did you let Abbott have those in the first place?
🚨 I call on Gov. Abbott to IMMEDIATELY convene a special session to REIN IN EXECUTIVE EMERGENCY POWERS… before Gina Hinojosa is sworn in!
Republicans lost last night, but Democrats were not sworn in.
We still have total power in Texas, and we must act like it by using the remaining ten weeks to restore separation of powers and limit the emergency powers that Governor-Elect Hinojosa is set to inherit, which would allow her to destroy liberty in Texas by executive fiat.
I’ve warned since I was first elected that NO governor, Republican or Democrat, should have unchecked emergency powers!
Now that Texas has elected a Democrat Governor, the urgency is undeniable… and inaction is intolerable.
Without action, Governor Hinojosa will inherit the powers of a DICTATOR.
Due to the absurd (and almost certainly unconstitutional) Texas emergency powers laws, Gov. Hinojosa will literally have the power to modify laws, ignore laws, or create and enforce laws – including criminal laws – on a whim!
Today is a day for ACTION, and bold leadership.
The Texas Legislature must immediately pass, and Governor Abbott must sign, legislation like HB911, which I filed in 2022 and warned at the time, that “Never ending emergency powers are antithetical to representative government and render people powerless. Legislative bodies allowing a single executive branch official to both write and enforce laws is the biggest threat to our constitutional system of divided government and should be opposed irrespective of which political party runs the executive branch.”
My legislation would protect liberty from executive fiat by, among other things, taking the following actions:
1. Prohibit the Governor from suspending or modifying statutes
2. Sunset emergency orders in 30 days if the legislature does not ratify the order
3. Prohibit the governor from reissuing emergency orders that expired or the legislature rejected
4. Require emergency orders to be narrowly tailored
5. Subject emergency orders to expedited judicial review
We have TEN WEEKS LEFT to protect Texas from near total Democrat rule.
I encourage every elected Republican in Texas to join my demand for Gov. Abbott to call a special session.
The future of liberty in America is literally on the line in Texas, and Texans deserve leadership that acts accordingly.

The Tennessee Republicans at the suggestion of President Trump, Gerrymandered TN9 ( my district) seeking a 9-0 republican delegation. Tennessee is still 8-1 as in their redistricting zeal they politically harmed the Republican incumbent in Tn4 and he lost.
So they spent 3 to $4 million of taxpayer money on a special session and election expenses and still ended up 8-1 and besides screwing me and my constituents (which I know they enjoyed) they screwed one of their own. Screw them!

Comparing the election results right now to Super Bowl 59, we’re at the point where Kendrick calls Drake a pedophile.

Counterpoint: Ossoff is a moderate, tech-forward, pro-innovation, sensible Democrat.
Not quite a blue dog, not far left, and not 900 years old.
Non-zero chance you're looking at the ultimate Dem presidential candidate in the not distant future.
This is what wins nationally.
During my time as a college student in Georgia, the state was a solid Republican state. Senators Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss held office. This marks the second instance in which backing a weak candidate has cost us a Senate seat there. A year ago, Ossoff was vulnerable; today he prevails by a wide margin.
It’s embarrassing and frankly pathetic that we have repeated this mistake. The literal definition of insanity.
Kudos to the GA GOP who did the best they could with a weak candidate.

Now we'll finally learn what's in the Epstein files. Mike Johnson is no longer in a position to shut down the House in order to prevent votes on measures to force their release. It's time. It's past time.

TENNESSEE DEMOCRATS HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY. Every Tennessee county shifted left by double-digit margins compared to 2024. Six State House races flipped. One Congressional seat flipped.

Jon Ossoff could win 40 states in 2028 including South Carolina, Kentucky and Mississippi.
Democrats would be crazy to even think about anyone else.
Clear the field and let him work

Dems should probably nominate the person who won a purple state 18 minutes after the polls closed for 2028.
Well done, @ossoff.

It was not a Blue Tsunami. It was a cataclysmic Blue nuclear bomb that shook the foundation of the American political landscape to its core.
Some of my thoughts on this midterm:
1) It was the strongest rebuke of the governing party of my lifetime, even moreso than 1994 & 2010. The leftward shift was decisive across all states, regions, demographics.
2) Trump is a failed President. He squandered an impressive coalition through boneheaded policies. A deeper underlying problem that resonated with voters was Trump's shameless grift, using his office to enrich his family & friends while failing to focus on the bread and butter issues affecting the average American. This jarring disconnect fueled voter anger, galvanizing lower propensity voters to go for Dems. Simultaneously, Trump's failure to deliver on his core promises led to the exodus of young men from his coalition (especially young working class White & Latino men).
3) Consequences of this midterm:
A) Anyone who worked for Trump is DOA for 2028 election.
B) GOP will be locked out of Senate control for quite some time; this means Alito & Thomas will be replaced by liberal judges. Roberts also probably retires soon. SCOTUS will be remade, along with lower level federal judiciary. One of Trump's few lasting legacies will be crushed.
C) Dem state legislatures will ruthlessly redistrict; huge implication beyond 2030
D) Dems will target tech oligarchs, especially Elon, crypto bros, and anyone who explicitly helped Trump. We will see this play out in Texas, where the incoming governor & her administration will no doubt target Elon's businesses that are headquartered in the state.
E) Trump will move left on policy to make deals with a Dem congress as his priority is in getting "wins" rather than any overaching ideological agenda. Another motive will be to avoid conviction as Dem House will invariably impeach Trump.
