The flowers are Ixora, commonly known as jungle flame, coralillo or bola de coral in the Caribbean. Its a tropical flowering shrub in the coffee family originating in Asia.
The Caribbean's beauty and botanical traditions exist within a history of forced migration, cultural survival, and knowledge that enslaved people carried, adapted, and passed down. Africans were not just laborers in Caribbean landscapes; they were knowledgeable cultivators, healers, and agents in the creation of Caribbean plant culture. 🪴❤️
