Referring to kudos, bookmarks and comments as the currency of fandom is so interesting to me. You're not being paid - in any form.
Capitalism has rotten your brains. You are being appreciated and complimented. Those are NOT payments for your labour.
Your work is not a product.

a library. this person just described a library. people are mad at libraries now
Replying to @ringthemoon
oh defff that it should be assumed it may or may not be downloaded and live forever! but I think the difference here is, someone downloading it and reading once for personal use, vs taking it and hosting it in their drive for a secondary audience to return to for a longer term

reposting fanart and downloading fics to a drive are not the same thing I fear. One is done for engagement/profit purposes and the other is done for archival purposes for when ao3 is down.

i don't even have to deal with the moral conundrum of "but what about authors financial losses" here. at some point i decided that people's access to works of art and to information matters more than author's right to control its distribution and i will ever change my mind. oops

This fanfic writer "ownership" discourse is honestly great politically because it shows that people don't actually want communism in practice when it happens to them.

new gen fandom is full of cops im crying
i don't really get why some writers are mad about their work being shared. they're being rightfully credited and nobody's profiting off of it other than the community.... How are u adopting capitalist ideology while posting on a website called Archive Of Our Own

I feel like people who try to act as if Sua was being abused by Mizi during ALNST and that their dynamic is black and white donβt realize that Suaβs whole thing is trope subversion. She isnβt who you initially assume her to be

Itβs interesting how Suaβs image is defined by her being a harmless, submissive doll, often seen as βslavishβ by viewers who mischaracterize her character, when one of her most prominent traits is her assertive dominance through touch, particularly with Mizi across multiple AUs
