Thread of short recipes from my mother:
When my mother first became a snowbird at my house in Florida, she decided to learn how to use a computer by writing a cookbook for the family. Her cookbook is full of family stories and memories as well as recipes.

Tim Snyder on billionaires leaving the US if taxed: "If they're not paying taxes anyway, it doesn't matter, right? Let them go plague some other country... if they're not going to pay taxes here, let them not pay taxes somewhere else, because it is actually no loss."

Notably, Florida is missing.... that needs to CHANGE.
Final spending figures from Senate Majority PAC (D) and its affiliates: Iowa: $67 million Ohio: $150 million Maine: $65 million Michigan: $67 million Texas: $40 million Kansas: $14 million South Carolina: $750,000 Mississippi: $2.2 million

Little to no sustained investment in FL, LA, MS, SC, and much of the South. That MUST change. We can’t keep calling Black voters the backbone of the Democratic Party while failing to invest in the states where so many live. Listen to the folks on the ground. Invest in them. Give them the resources to build and compete. You can’t win everywhere if you refuse to invest everywhere.

Hold on, folks. Can we talk about Hakeem Jeffries for a second? He spent four years in the minority with no gavel, no subpoenas, and no committee chairs. And he still got results. He forced the vote on the Epstein files, and it passed 427 to 1. He forced a House vote on extending the ACA tax credits, with three Republicans signing his petition. He forced a vote to restore union rights for a million federal workers. He helped get Ukraine aid through. And he ran months of war games to prepare for every dirty trick this regime might pull on the midterms. Three days before the election he told a rally: “One of the first things we’re going to do is run Pete Hegseth out of town.” That doesn’t sound like a guy without a spine to me. He’s said “accountability” in dozens of speeches. The subpoena power arrives January 3rd, and you’d better believe he plans to use it. I get it. We’re all hungry for hearings. So am I. But responsible leaders don’t promise revenge on camera, they build cases that hold up. Speaker Emerita Pelosi made the job look easy, because she was insanely good at it, and she is precisely who has showed him the ropes. That job seems hard as hell to me, and that's probably why whenever "popular" Democrats are asked if they want it, they're like "Nope. And I will be voting for Leader Jeffries." An overwhelming majority of Democratic members of Congress plan to back him as Speaker, but he hasn’t even been sworn in as Speaker yet. Let him do the job before we cut him off at the knees. Republicans would LOVE it if Democrats did their dirty work for them, knocking out our FIRST Black Speaker of the House in history. JFC, even the horrible, lying jackass Mike Johnson got TWO FULL YEARS, and he accomplished NOTHING for the American people. Affordability. Accountability. That’s what the MAJORITY of voters asked for, and he’s laser-focused on both. Give the man a chance.🙏💪

OK. I've put this off long enough. I was going to post this when I thought maybe we had gathered all the information we needed about my husband's health. But for the past few months, we kept encountering new complications every week: cancer, etc. We are asking for prayer.

After days of reading assessments of why Florida didn’t turn blue, and while teaching a graduate class analyzing electoral dynamics, a few things are clear. Florida had an incredibly strong, diverse slate of Democratic candidates. And we’ve had outstanding candidates for years. But you can have the BEST candidate for the moment and still face nearly impossible odds when the political infrastructure is broken. No sustained voter registration program, no serious statewide turnout operation, little investment, and no united coalition of elected Democrats supporting those willing to run. Add voter suppression laws and partisan election officials, and the obstacles are enormous. Georgia and Texas didn’t become competitive overnight. It took YEARS of organizing, investment, and national attention. Let’s recognize the extraordinary people who step up to run under these conditions. Every candidate, win or lose, builds the foundation for the next. Many of us, people you don’t know or hear about, have been quietly building that strategy behind the scenes. But it has to be better coordinated. 2028 is an enormous opportunity for Florida. But winning requires more than great candidates. It requires building the political infrastructure to get them across the finish line. We can do this, but we need to think bigger, learn from GA and TX, and work together. news.wfsu.org/state-news/202…

My former pastor, a charming octogenarian, had a standard jocular response if anyone asked him for a favor: "Sure, if it doesn't cost me any time, effort, or money." This made me think of him today.
When being just and honest comes at a price, pay it. When forgiving seems like a defeat, forgive. When everyone tells you to think of yourselves first, do not be afraid to put yourselves in the last place. Be willing to give up time, money, comfort and plans to serve others. May those who see you find themselves asking: “Why do they live in this way? Where do they get this freedom? Why do they love one another so much?” #ApostolicJourney #Uruguay

Retired Navy Vice Admiral and Congresswoman-elect Nancy Lacore (D-SC) said she “was never given a reason” as to why Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth fired her in August 2025, but “at this point, it doesn't really matter.” “It opened a door for me to do what I'm doing now and continuing my service in Congress,” she told @margbrennan on Friday. When asked what impeachable offenses she thinks Secretary Hegseth has committed, she said “there’s probably plenty, and I do believe that this will be handled before I get there.”

🚨JUST IN: MSNOW’s Jacob Soboroff just eviscerated Stephen Miller, laying out the horrific details of how he masterminded Trump’s most demented policies. Miller is single-handedly responsible for Renee Good and Alex Pretti’s deaths. I had no idea it’s even worse:

To remind the new Congress, Trump and Hegseth are guilty of the extrajuditial killing of drug-runners and of premeditated murder of survivors at sea...as proven by a long list of historical case law. Please reestablish our collective legitimacy in int'l affairs.

It is safe to say, Big business is bracing for a reckoning. Democrats plan to open a broad set of probes into less-than-transparent moves made by some of America's largest companies since 2024. Tech and finance leaders with close ties to Trump White House are expecting to be the targets.
Warren: "I do want to be clear: If you've been making your profits by cheating American families and scamming your investors, you better get ready for some investigations. Serious ones."

Insane.
James Talarico pulled off a D+67 shift from 2024 with young men in Texas. It was the largest swing toward a Democrat among men under 30 in any battleground Senate race.

With all due respect, I don’t give a f**k if Schumer has an inspiring personality The f**king win he and Jeffries just gave us is inspiring enough. I live in Texas. Schumer and Jeffries just helped overthrow the oppressive dictatorship I and many Texans have been under for most of our life. People can f**k off with that stupid whining “he’s not inspiring” sh*t talk. Results are more important than charisma.
