After speaking to a family member of one of the 158 fallen I can tell that they were all notified 5 days (via email) before the ground breaking ceremony that they were welcome to come to Ottawa at their own expense but would not be permitted to speak or participate in the ceremony. 72 hours before the ceremony, the date was moved up by 24 hours so even those who planned to attend now had to pay change fees for their flights. In the end none attended. This gov, in part won the 2015 election on the promise they would never oppose veterans in court, they would give veterans everything they deserved including respect & they would honour the sacred oath to never break faith with those (veterans) living or dead made by PM Sir Robert Borden after visiting wounded soldiers in France, yet here we are! A gov who has repeatedly opposed veterans in court, can’t seem to process claims or appeals in the timeframe they set & tries to red tape veterans to death & now flat out disrespects our living & dead veterans of the Afghan War!
.@VeteransENG_CA Minister @JMcknightDelta tells Commons committee that excluded combat veterans was merely “one step in many” to honour ex-military. “Your department couldn’t tell me how many families of the 158 fallen were invited to the groundbreaking of the Afghan Monument.” — MP @TolmieFraser blacklocks.ca/silent-on-botc… #cdnpoli

Despite the University of Toronto stating that the "honour our martyrs" could not proceed for security reasons, student groups are holding this obscene event regardless. Let me remind you that October 7th marks the day that Hamas terrorists raped women and mutilated their bodies, shot the elderly in their beds, murdered children still in their pajamas, and bound a mother and child together with wire before setting them on fire. The University of Toronto can no longer pretend that this is an exercise in freedom of expression. This is an exercise in hate and it must be called out for what it is. By providing a veneer of academic legitimacy, the University has become a breeding ground and safe harbor for the antisemitism which has poisoned our society. If the University of Toronto will not form a task force on antisemitism, then it is time for the province to impose one on it. @UofT @nolanmquinn @MichelleC_PC @TeamKerzner

🚨 Newly emerging videos from the January Uprising in Iran, show massive crowds of unarmed civilian protesters taking to the streets with their families, who were gunned down by the Islamist regime, which was trying to falsely brand them as armed agents. Share it with the world.

Did @MarkJCarney's government or the Canadian media report the the FBI uncovered a terrorist threat in Canada? We abandon our security partners at great risk to public safety
FBI New York alerted our international partners after identifying social media threats by an individual to attack a synagogue. FBI New York quickly notified the FBI’s Law Enforcement Attaché Office in Ottawa, and the individual was swiftly arrested. Read more at: drps.ca/news/posts/male-arre… If you see something suspicious or have information about a possible hate crime, we need you to speak up. Report it to tips.fbi.gov or 1-800-CALL-FBI.

Peter McKay on Carney's talk of invasion plans with the NYT "I don't think that this is going to move the dial one bit in terms of trying to get Canada back to the trade talks" "So I don't know what domestic political gain was intended here, if at all. But I really find this entire episode quite strange and certainly, in my view, unhelpful in terms of dealing with these trade tariff issues." @PeterMacKay

It’s always such a pleasure when Maya’s friends come to visit. The moment they walk in, something lights up in her, there’s a spark in her eyes and the biggest, largest smile on her face. You can see how happy she is just by watching her. Look at Maya move! She’s dancing up a storm! #mayastrong

An ex-soldier who reportedly blamed Jews for COVID fires gunshots at a synagogue on Yom Kippur. Canada’s own threat assessment warned in June that normalized antisemitism would push susceptible individuals toward violence. This is what that looks like. globalnews.ca/news/12068908/…

PM Carney claimed today that industrial carbon pricing has “zero” direct or indirect impact on food prices. That is not true. Ottawa’s own modelling estimated millions in carbon-pricing costs for food, beverage manufacturing in 2022, when the carbon tax was $20 per tonne. Now, it's $110 per tonne. Costs do not simply disappear. Source: Canada Gazette.

Please spare me the whole "this isn't Canada" rhetoric. A synagogue shot up on the holiest day of the Jewish calendar is exactly what Canada has become. The reason is clear, moral cowardice. Whether it's politicians equivocating on the legality of hate rallies against Jews, or university faculty spreading hate under the guise of academic inquiry, society's response of a collective shrug is what has brought us to this dark place. Until our institutions find the moral courage to rid themselves of those who propagate hate, this darkness will continue to spread. @UofT @oliviachow @MarkJCarney torontosun.com/opinion/colum…

For all the 9/11 "truthers" claiming the planes were too flimsy to damage the buildings: this impact clearly ripped a massive hole in the building that took out the structure and the floors. Can we please stop arguing about this now?

Jet fuel in open air burns at temperatures ranging from 800-1500°F. Structural steel loses >50% of its structural capacity at ~1100°F. Structural steel loses 90% of its structural capacity at temperatures above 1200°F. Everything is a conspiracy when you understand nothing.

Steel melts at over 2500 degrees. Absolutely nothing in that building or plane burns that hot.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Steel weakens dramatically below its ~2500°F melting point, losing most strength around 1000-1100°F; NIST found WTC fires reached up to 1800°F, weakening steel with dislodged fireproofing. nist.gov/world-trade-ce… bahlfireproofing.com/fire-ratings-f…
