If Ikhide Ikheloa has a philosophy for blunt criticism, it is that power must answer to the people. His social commentary focused on three notions: power, truth, and justice. When he runs amok on the Internet, it is those three filters applying themselves and probing: Who does the story serve? What worldview does it promote? Who gets hurt by it? He says what many writers are thinking but wouldn’t voice for fear of losing career opportunities. Two years after his boycott of the Kaduna Festival, one of then governor El Rufai’s most vocal critics, a writer and activist named Dadiyata, disappeared. The next month, writers and intellectuals attended the festival again. When he lambasted them for their silence, he was voicing what many saw as a betrayal. opencountrymag.com/ikhide-ik… #opencountrymag #ikhideikheloa #books #controversies

By the time the North is finished with Tinubu, it will dawn on him there is a difference between Khaki and leather. Removing Tinubu is now a religion in the North. Time is ticking fast.

"The danger of a single story is that it forces out other possibilities and limits the views of anyone looking from outside. If you, for instance, persistently say Nigerian men are toxic, it automatically excludes all the Nigerian men who aren't toxic and may in fact be more than toxic Nigerian men. The job of fiction isn't to reject stereotypes but to turn them into art forms that makes you at least ponder if it cannot make you wonder. James Edeoghon's debut, British Natasha and The Ashewo Doctor out in October 2026 seems to be able to make readers ponder and wonder. This novel, which relies heavily on time stamped messages between former lovers plays with plot like a pilot might play on a plane on autopilot, it provides dialogue that seem to be happening right in front of you, and leaves the readers to bequeath on the characters their own interior monologue. Unlike many romance novels, British Natasha and the Ashewo Doctor is narrated in first person by a Nigerian character, Leonard, a doctor in a residency programme in the UK. He meets Natasha, a nurse assistant and single mum of one and they start a riotously sexual affair which morphs into the semblance of a relationship as Natasha gets in deeper while Leonard, sometimes coolly, sometimes chaotically remains on the surface. Leonard's narration of his relationship with Natasha is one that sits right on the fence between memory and imagination. He writes with certainty, leaving nothing to speculation as though his time stamped messages are enough for us to think he's not mixed his fact with conjecture." WSJ - It took about five minutes for Jesse Dalton’s iPhone Duo dream to shift into nightmare mode. He had only opened and closed the Duo four or five times when the hinge got stuck at a 45-degree angle. Dalton tried to pry it open and heard a loud pop. Immediately, bright lines appeared on screen, one along the crease and another multicolor strip shooting across one side of the screen. The whole interior display also appeared “wavy,” he says. "Madagascar's President, Colonel Michael Randrianirina, has issued a directive that has no precedent in African governance. "No minister or government official of Madagascar shall send their children abroad for education. We are building our nation from the ground up, and this cannot be achieved with a half-hearted commitment. To take our development seriously, we must ensure equality in our educational system. No one receiving taxpayers' money from Madagascar will be permitted to sponsor their children's education abroad. This will not be tolerated in my government!"‌ The logic is brutally simple. If the people who run the country do not trust its schools, why should anyone else? If the children of ministers are educated in Paris while the children of farmers sit in crumbling classrooms, the system is not broken. It is working exactly as designed. Randrianirina took power in October 2025 after Gen Z protests toppled the previous government. He has already banned ministers from holding dual citizenship or foreign passports. This directive is the next step. It closes the exit door for the elite. It forces them to invest in the system they oversee. It makes their children's future dependent on the same schools they are responsible for fixing. The context is not abstract. His predecessor, Andry Rajoelina, secretly acquired French citizenship to make it easier for his children to study overseas. That is the reality Randrianirina is responding to. The elite had an escape hatch. He is welding it shut. Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world. Its public universities are underfunded. Its schools are overcrowded. The president is saying: fix them. Not from Paris. From Antananarivo." - Historical Africa [Facebook] 10-26-2026 facebook.com/share/p/1E1KLQS…

If you give only 4,000 Naira in monthly offerings, you are wicked—very wicked. You are an enemy of the church. Enemy of the church! You should leave the church and get out! - powerful man of God declares. According to him: You want to know the enemies of your church? When you talk about money, they get angry. They always complain. Just know they don’t love your church and aren’t interested in it. Anyone in church for a year who isn’t asking himself, “What is my f—”—do you want a gate fee? You want a gate fee before entering church? You want a gate fee before realizing you have responsibility? No gate fee in church doesn’t mean there’s no cost to you. Have some sense! Ask yourself, “Am I not a partner in the ministry?” How much is your offering? 1,000 Naira on Sunday. That means 4,000 Naira a month. If 1,000 of you give 4,000 Naira, that’s 4 million Naira. That can’t even cover diesel—not to mention the place, running costs, maintenance, staff, and other things. You are wicked! Very wicked. You are an enemy of the church. Enemy of the church! You should leave the church and get out!
