"Honestly Luna, why do you believe in so many ridiculous things?"
"In the year 3000 BC, people knew the sun went around the Earth. In the year 1700 people knew that bleeding would cure illness. And the year you turned eleven you knew that magic was not real. Think of what you'll know tomorrow."

British aristocrats suffered a 20% death rate in World War I, shedding blood on a scale and at a rate not seen since the Wars of the Roses
The British state repaid that sacrifice by confiscating their estates through ruinous death and income taxes, wiping away the upper class as a politically important force
The wages of that are Britain's dismal present
The centuries that saw it governed by a martial aristocracy saw it rise to the peak of Olympus as the mightiest, most prosperous, and most flourishing civilization
The century that has seen it ruled by "democracy" has seen it go from a glorious empire to a wretched, poor little island that is increasingly full of Pakistanis and Africans

God using His raw power to save you with or without your consent seems not like the Christ who calls us to repent and to take up our cross and follow Him.
It seems like the Allah of the Mohammedans, who says "These to paradise, and I care not. These to Hell, and I care not."
An arbitrary monster who saves and damns at his arbitrary pleasure, free of any constraints like reason, good and evil, right and wrong, etc.
Vernon: those damn muggles are ruining everything. can't build anything properly, can't dress properly, can't even raise their children properly.
Lucius: fascinating. you have just described yourself, vernon.
Vernon: shut up, lucius. i'm talking about the other muggles.
Lucius: ah, yes. the other muggles. naturally, you are the exception.
Vernon: exactly! finally, someone with a functioning brain.
Lucius: splendid. i despise them too.
Vernon: knew i liked you, lucius. you're a man of culture.
Lucius: and you, vernon, are a man of remarkably selective self-awareness.
Vernon: what does that mean?
Lucius: nothing. i wouldn't want to strain your muggle brain.
Vernon: HA! now that's the sort of joke i like!
Lucius: and i suppose you hate wizards as well?
Vernon: absolutely disgusting creatures.
Lucius: vernon, my dear friend, i am a wizard.
Vernon: ...
Lucius: ...
Vernon: well, you're one of the good ones.
Lucius: YOU ABSOLUTE HYPOCRITE.
Vernon: LOOK WHO'S TALKING, YOU FERRET-HEADED BASTARD!
Lucius: at least my ferrets have better manners than your entire family!
Vernon: your hair looks like it was styled by a dying swan!
Lucius: and your moustache looks like a caterpillar died on your upper lip!
Vernon: ...
Lucius: ...
Vernon: same time next week?
Lucius: naturally. i'll bring the wine.
Vernon: i'll bring the biscuits.
Lucius: excellent. we can spend another evening hating everyone except ourselves.
Vernon: NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL FRIENDSHIP!

🇯🇵🤝🇺🇸
There's a lot of reasons for this mutual respect and affection.
1. Japan has an absolutely beautiful culture, one greatly admired by most Americans for its traditional values, refinement, and underlying martial/meritocratic foundation. It has been a fierce ally through thick and thin for 80 years. Every time I see the cherry blossoms return each spring here in DC, I say a small prayer of thanks for Japan's steadfast friendship.
2. As a practical matter, Japan became a critical ally for the U.S. in the post-WW2 fight against communism. The permanent U.S. military presence in Japan that began immediately following WW2 expanded during the Korean War, and has enabled both countries to stand as a bulwark against communist aggression in the region.
3. Japan was, and remains, a technological and manufacturing powerhouse that understands the American marketplace and how to work within our peculiar version of capitalism. Innovations like the Toyota Production System, colocation of manufacturing operations, and transfer of expertise have anchored the natural affinity between our nations in mutual cooperation and economic success.
4. Japan loves baseball, cowboy culture, and American whiskey, but has indigenized them while putting new and interesting twists on them. The U.S. loves martial arts, sporty cars, and kaiju films, while similarly indigenizing them. In all cases, the domestication process retained a sincere affection for the mother culture's "pure" version, and we celebrate the cross-pollination as value-added. This is due to the massive number of Japanese and American nationals who have lived in the other country, and built deep bonds while there.
5. Beneath all of this are the two cultures' warrior ethoses, which are highly compatible—sacrifice as a virtue, stoic embrace of service, individual bravery without pursuit of glory, ferocity in the fight, and respect for an opponent who fights with honor.
6. Bigger picture, the Japanese are an incredibly polite, respectful, and curious culture. The U.S. is similarly so, but in a rougher and less refined way. The Japanese are phenomenal guests and hosts alike, and downright decent human beings, welcoming Americans into their lives as we are without pretension or arrogance. Contrast this with the U.S.' relationship to most of Europe, whose elites openly sneer at the enthusiastic and extroverted Americans as gauche and ignorant.
TL;DR—The Japanese and American cultures are naturally compatible, we've been through some shit together, have deeply intertwined and mutually reinforcing economies, we've had extensive cultural transfer through people over many years, and we embrace our differences as paths to understanding rather than barriers to friendship.

I work with a girl, who's balance isn't very good. She can only walk because I'm there to keep her from falling. When we're moving she keeps a tight grip on my hand. But of course I'd never remove my grip on her.
And think how much of a better hold Christ keeps on us.

MALFOID SAGA, BOOK 3 CHAPTER 1 IS LIVE!!!
Chapter 1 of Book 3 of the Malfoid Saga, Harry Potter and the Imprisoned Girl, is now live. In this chapter Harry tries to wrap his head around what he saw down in the chamber, his own doubts, and the infuriatingly contradictory letter Dracina Malfoy sent him. Whilst Harry's doubt and faith will play a large part in the story, this is not going to be a story to convert you. But you will gain greater insight into the wide and wonderful fantasy world this story lives in. Alongside it's deep history. Please enjoy. #Malfoid
