Christian Horner has revisited the final Safety Car controversy of Abu Dhabi 2021, and openly described Red Bull pushing Michael Masi to allow the lapped cars through.
๐๏ธ ๐๐ต๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐๐ถ๐ฎ๐ป ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฟ: โOriginally he said, โNo, the cars are not to unlap.โ And then by putting pressure on him, he agreed to unlap the cars.โ
But Horner also acknowledges the crucial detail: Masi only released the cars positioned between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

That decision transformed the finale: Verstappen restarted directly behind Hamilton on fresh softs, while Lewis was on hards more than 40 laps old.

Abu Dabi 2021 fue uno de los mayores escรกndalos del mundo del deporte.
Ese dรญa todos nos sentimos insultados y estafados (si eres aficionado de verdad a la F1). Tuvieron que manipular la situaciรณn para beneficiar a un piloto e impidieron que Lewis Hamilton ganara su octavo campeonato y su quinto tรญtulo consecutivo.

๐จ Toto Wolff says he tried to guide Michael Masi throughout the 2021 season before the controversial Abu Dhabi finale.
โI really tried to speak to Michael and guide him all along the year.โ
