Abdul, born and raised Michigan, is not "attached" to America, corrupted, the same argument used for generations to cast Jews as a sinister outside force. The attempt to paint Muslims in this way, immigrants, trans people, comedians, the media, the colleges, the Democrats, etc, etc. - it is not JUST that this kind of politics will come for Jews. It's already here, in the alt-right staffers in congressional offices, in anti-Semitic conspiracy theories gaining increasing purchase on the right, podcasters just asking questions about the Holocaust, great replacement theory, goyslop, etc, etc, etc. And as Vance is making clear, it won't end with Trump. The more successful a movement based on dominance and hatred and protecting "real" Americans, the more I worry about the safety of Jews in this country. The midterms are a chance to check MAGA, halt this rise, and in Michigan prove it ineffective. Is there anti-semitism on the left? YES. Of course. We ought to call that out directly, and reject it as wrong and toxic and self-destructive, which I won't stop doing. But we cannot lose sight of what we are facing from the MAGA right. These are the stakes to me.
Vance on El-Sayed: We have to understand what happens when our nation gives into these kinds of people with zero attachment to its land or to its history. What we saw in France, the hatred, the ingratitude, the desire to destroy rather than a desire to build, that exact same cancer that has corrupted El-Sayed.

Archie died five days before my Maizie and whenever I see anything about Archie I begin sobbing
#RHOC sneak peek! I feel so awful for Shannon. Anyone who’s had a pet knows how hard it is when they get sick & you don’t want to let go, but you also don’t want them to suffer. Shannon has been through so much heartache & trauma & Archie gave her that unconditional love.

Marist being Marist again. Jackson+9, D+11 generic ballot among registered voters. Jackson+2, D+5 generic ballot among likely voters. All in Harris+6 Maine. Imma be real, I somehow doubt the gap is THAT large.
Maine Senate: 🔵 Jackson 49% (+2) 🔴 Collins 47% @maristpoll, LV, 10/22-25

We have Benson up 12.4 but El-Sayed only up 2.5, with Benson doing better among Independents & Moderates as well as Black and Catholic voters (compared to El-Sayed): ippsr.msu.edu/news/msu-poll-…

In the rush to build data centers, companies are starting to use their own off grid gas generators. This results in much higher emissions – 60% to 80% – compared with using their local electricity grid and risks locking in longer-term fossil dependence.

Purposefully free-balling in grey sweatpants for the sake of democracy >
En estas elecciones de Brasil y el triunfo de Lula, recordemos a los "Gostosos com Lula" que se cosificiaron en pos de la democracia. Machos frenando el avance de la ultraderecha una teta a la vez. 👁️🫦👁️🇧🇷🏳️‍🌈

Cheesecake Factory populism is so weird to me because the rise of chain restaurants created over-the-top, replicable dining experiences, which eventually put the final squeeze on mom-and-pop restaurants, such as the US version of trattorias. I would argue those family-owned neighborhood businesses made the dining experience feel more special and pulled communities together. The shift to chain restaurants homogenized American life and concentrated corporate power. Strange to frame corporate consolidation as "populism."

While this may be true, how is this helping 9 days before the election?
Haley Stevens tells CNN she encouraged Abdul El-Sayed to give a speech addressing Black voters’ concerns, and “that didn’t happen.” “I told the campaign, ‘Give a speech in the Black community. Make it a note of recognition for some of the pain, some of the struggles people are going through.’ ... That speech didn’t happen.”
