Finally got to put together a complete deck on the state of open models. What they are, licenses, how competitive they are, signs people are using them, distillation's impact, and how we balance the risks and benefits of openness! Will record a video lecture of these soon, and hopefully re-do them a few times a year.

the coding agent haters are getting dunning-kruger'd so hard right now do you really think that your engineering ability is better than the models at this point? it is very very likely that fable is better than you in every branch of software it has been trained on all the code of the internet, it knows almost every trick in the book, all the design patterns of every domain, every single low-level detail, every bit-twiddling hack, it's read every single blog post from every cracked engineer that ever existed do you really think you can beat it? do you really think you can be more creative than it? unless you are 99th percentile expert in some niche domain of software, it simply is not possible. sorry.

This semester I am teaching a new course on Agentic Systems, which explores the full stack of AI systems: from building and optimizing agent harnesses to serving and optimizing LLM serving infrastructure. Students learn by building, measuring, and optimizing real agents and systems, balancing capability, latency, and cost. Our goal is not just to teach today's AI technologies, but to prepare students to build tomorrow's. All lectures, readings, and assignments are publicly available at cs2680.seas.harvard.edu

.@sama says the advice to pick one thing to build and pour all your focus into it no longer applies. "The canonical advice that was correct two years ago was, 'Pick one, and put all your effort into it, because you can't build all 30 things.'" "You can now build all 30 things. And you can get people to use them all. And you can work more on the ones that work." "So I think this mindset of lots of ideas, quick feedback, and being open to a lot of things not working is great for this new era for how people build."

We're adding support for AGENTS.md to Claude Code. Starting today in version 2.1.277, if there is no CLAUDE.md in a folder, Claude will check for and use AGENTS.md. You can toggle this behavior in /config.

We turned our hometown into a massive explorable pixel-art map. This is João Pessoa, Brazil 🇧🇷 - our first step toward rendering any city in the world in pixel art. Inspired by the amazing @_coenen and isometric.nyc. Our goal is to make the entire world! We built an entire platform around this and we can turn any city into pixel art :) 🌎 earthtopixels.com/joao-pesso…

I can’t stress enough how little an idea matters compared to the agency of the people executing the idea. I have had the privilege of knowing and sometimes even working with some of the most successful people (by various metrics). The difference between mediocre and excellent work and outcomes is predominantly one of agency. In practice this means: they dont wait for things to happen to them they go out and make things happen for them. They don’t wait for someone else to do something, for someone to teach them, for someone to give them the path, etc. They just go out and find a way to do it. I think the single biggest superpower these people have is the realization/belief that the world around them is completely mutable. Most everything that happens is because a person made it happen. I used to tell people to look around the room you’re sitting in. Look at everything. Every noun. It almost all exists because a person willed it into existence. Nothing is stopping you from doing the same. I see people online all the time dismissing someone else’s success because “I had that idea first” or whatever. I mean… yeah? If so then the difference is… you. So a bit of a self own whenever I hear that. Number one tip: act with agency.

Everyone knows marketing, sales, and deployment convert better when personalized to the buyer and their specific needs. Previously you could only scale this personalization via more employees, but now you can scale it with Aidan at @sablehq. They've unlocked a level of personalization and real time engagement that couldn't exist before the latest advancements in computer use and vision models. We're excited to partner with them, and tell your front office teams to give them a try.
Introducing Aidan, your newest AI employee Aidan is the first computer-using AI built for realtime conversation We’ve raised $45M from @sequoia and @8VC to bring Aidan to the world @NotionHQ and @DecagonAI already use Aidan to run customer interactions. This is how @sablehq works:

Explaining what your product or service does is one of the few parts of business that never got cheaper. The real constraint isn't information. It's the ability to put human judgment in front of every customer when they need it. Until now, the only way to do that was headcount. Today, we're excited to announce that @8vc co-led @sablehq's $45M raise alongside @sequoia. Sable is building an AI employee that can understand what a customer is trying to accomplish, interact with the product alongside them, and reason through complex problems in real time. As models improve, new possibilities open faster than any roadmap can absorb. We're proud to partner with @Nim_Ravid1, Linda He, Leon Chen, Itamar Rocha Filho, and the entire Sable team as they build the future of customer interaction. One of the biggest constraints on growth has always been the ability to scale human judgment. At Palantir, we saw firsthand why exceptional people matter in helping customers understand and deploy transformative technology. The hardest work wasn't explaining the technology. It was understanding context, reasoning through novel situations, and helping customers make better decisions. Until now, that hasn't been scalable. That's changing. @8vc led @sablehq's $45M raise alongside my friend @shaunmmaguire at @sequoia. I'm honored to be joining the board. The best founders recognize platform shifts early and execute even faster. Nim Ravid and the Sable team saw where multimodal AI was heading early and built with remarkable speed. Sable is building an AI employee that can see what a customer sees, interact with the product alongside them, and reason through complex problems in real time. What felt like science fiction a year ago is already working in production with some of the fastest-growing AI companies in the world. We’re excited to work alongside @Nim_Ravid1, Linda, Leon, Itamar, and the entire Sable team as they build one of the defining AI companies of this next era.

Converting the haters, one by one 😊
New ChatGPT voice mode is incredibly impressive. I continue to believe that natural voice interface is underweighted in LLM assessments. For a decent chunk of people, it’s just how they interact with AI.
