I’ve noticed something strange about the UK. We’re told people are struggling. Yet restaurants are packed. Airports are rammed. Gigs sell out. Holidays are booked. Meanwhile, mortgages, food and bills keep rising. So who exactly is feeling the cost-of-living crisis?

🚨 WHY JOHN, WHY?! A pint already costs a fortune. Now you’re adding another 2p in tax? It’s never just 2p, is it? Beer. Bills. Food. Fuel. Then politicians wonder why people feel poorer every year. 🍺
🚨 NEW: John Healey is set to add 2p to the cost of a pint by increasing the alcohol duty tax

1997 vs 2026. Back then, a house cost around 3.5x the average salary. Today? Around 7.6x. Same hard work. Same dream. Completely different odds. Then they wonder why young people are struggling. Apparently, it’s an avocado problem. 🤦

Minimum wage going up to £13.20 sounds great until you realise businesses only have 3 options: Raise prices. Employ fewer people. Cut costs elsewhere. Workers need better pay. But if everything else gets more expensive, how much better off are we really?
🚨 NEW: John Healey will increase the minimum wage for over 21s from £12.71 to around £13.20

The older I get, the more I realise we’re all just trying to afford a life we were told would be normal. A decent house. A reliable car. A few days away. Money left at the end of the month. Somehow, that’s become a luxury. And we wonder why everyone’s stressed.

Imagine paying £1,700 a month in rent… Then being told you can’t afford a £1,000 mortgage. You’re expected to save a deposit while handing over thousands every month to someone else. And people wonder why so many are stuck renting. The system feels broken.

£50 a month for water. That’s £600 a year just to have water in your own home. And that’s before electricity, gas, council tax, broadband and everything else. Owning a home isn’t just about paying the mortgage. It’s the cost of simply living in it.

And others are paying so much more too xitter.cf/itsdbtalks/status/2114…
Ash pays over £70 a month for water 😳💧 I thought my £50 was bad! That’s £600 a year for me vs over £840 for Ash. £240+ a year just for water! 🤯

Kinda hard when you got a big house, family & a garden 😂 Funny thing though. It was £38 when I moved in 3 years ago. Water prices have gone up more than most bills & least talked about

23 cars. That’s how many I stopped for or gave way to on my drive to work this morning. Only 7 people acknowledged it. A little wave costs nothing. Funny how something so small can tell you so much about people. 🤷‍♂️

Exactly Donald! It annoys me that so many have so little common courtesy

The AI boom isn’t over. The easy money might be. As weaker companies struggle to raise funding, the strongest players could consolidate their lead. For investors, this is where things get interesting. The next big winners may not be those building the most AI, but those making real money from it.

Pretty much. As of the past few weeks, debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company that doesn’t have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers. SpaceX closed $40B of debt for GPUs, but we’re investment grade and have Starlink & launch revenue. That means the 200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. Some will make it through, but not many.

Monday morning. Alarm goes off. It’s dark, it’s cold, the bills are waiting and you’re already tired before the week has even started. You get up anyway, because life doesn’t pay for itself. Welcome to adulthood. 🥲

My Stocks & Shares ISA is UP today. 📈 Warren Buffett, make some room. There’s a new investor in town. At this rate, I’ll be buying the supermarket meal deal with my investment returns by Christmas.

Spent £3,000 on a new boiler last year. Not once has anyone walked into my house and said, “Wow, that’s a lovely boiler.” It sits in a cupboard, nobody sees it, and it just keeps the house warm. Adulthood is basically spending thousands on things nobody notices. 😂

Remember when £3,500 could get you a decent second-hand car? Now it gets you 120,000 miles on the clock, a list of previous owners and a dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree. But hey, at least it’s only £3,500. 🙃

Sunday morning in your 20s: Wake up at 11. Check your bank. £14.62 left. No idea why. Sunday morning in your 30s: Wake up at 6. Check your bank, mortgage, investments and energy bills. Still no idea where the money goes. 😂

The clocks have gone back an hour, so naturally my body has decided 04:30am is a perfectly reasonable time to start the day. 😂 Everyone else enjoying an extra hour in bed. I’m already living tomorrow. It’s going to be a LONG Sunday.

Earning £50k in the UK sounds like a milestone. Until you realise every pay rise gets chipped away by tax, National Insurance, childcare and a cost of living that never seems to stop climbing. A decent salary shouldn’t feel like you’re barely getting ahead.
Earned just over £50,270 this year? Congrats. You just entered the higher rate tax band. 40% on anything above that. That’s before National Insurance. Before student loans. Most of your money is still taxed at 20%. But that next £1 pound? Yeah, HMRC wants 40p of it. Welcome to the UK.🇬🇧

The middle class are being squeezed from every direction. Mortgage. Food. Energy. Council tax. Everything costs more, yet you’re still expected to save, invest and build a future. At this rate, financial security is becoming a luxury rather than a goal.
