There are tons of old, out-of-print books that told the truth the first time, but which Marxist historians (like Eric Foner) today tell us: DO NOT READ THAT OLD BOOK. READ OUR VERSION OF EVENTS INSTEAD. Don't listen to Marxists. Read the old books UnapprovedLibrary.com

Took one of these political alignment quizzes out of curiosity. Here’s what Life After Libertarianism looks like.
74
Dave Smith is part of the problem. He is lying about the US going to war for Israel. This is a much bigger lie than saying “libertarians only care about weed” He has thrown out all previous libertarian understanding of the incentives of empire in favor of “it was blackmail” Rubio used the legal excuse of “defending an ally” to avoid a congressional war powers resolution. Libertarians jumped on those gov quotes like it’s real. We spent two months prepping assets in the biggest build up since Iraq and we attacked Iran on the last day of a negotiating window we set. We didn’t get dragged in by Israel. This was the plan, it was coordinated. Libertarians are using the legal excuse to trick you. The US is not in the Middle East because of Israel. We entered the Middle East in great power competition with the Soviet Union. Our enemies became Israel’s enemies. The seven countries list Wesley Clark talks about was a list of former Soviet client states. These countries at a key energy/trade crossroad became open for the taking after the fall of the Soviet Union, that is what accelerated our focus on the Middle East. Not Israel. Israel advised us against invading Iraq. And no it’s not because they wanted Iran instead, as if it was their choice anyways. If it weren’t for countries like Israel and the Gulf states we would be stuck managing our mess forever. Thankfully now that Iran is humiliated and neutered the rest will be strong enough to take the region off our hands. Meaning Trump is accomplishing a long term libertarian goal of setting up a realistic Middle East exit strategy while libertarians are working with globalists leftists to spread Russiagate 2.0. Making the Daily Wire seem like stand up patriots in comparison.

Libertarians: why don't we ever get what we want? Also libertarians: as 10% of the population we demand we get everything we want or we will burn it all down
Please bro don't punish the Republicans by not voting, bro. They're gonna do things this time, bro. we need you, bro, this is the most important election of our lifetime, to save America, bro. They're saying we'll be communist if you don't vote bro. Don't you want 5k, bro.

If you want to know which side was canceling Ed Sheeran for trying to remain non political, then look at who he caved to.
🚨 UNREAL...Ed Sheeran caved to the woke terrorist mob at his concert. "What is happening in Gaza is catastrophic and unjustifiable and disproportionate." What an embarrassment. Never cave to the mob....Especially a Hamas backed mob.

An incumbent libertarian legislator in NH was primaried by a mediocre Republican. The libertarian lost. And that sucks. But instead of turning against the Republican Party, he's advocating for everyone to vote for who defeated him. I don't think Massie is "evil", but he is helping the left and making things worse. It's understandable that Massie is frustrated, but being "America first" should mean putting your country above your personal vandetta. Libertarians nationally should learn from the Free Staters in NH. We'll fight hard in the primaries, but as soon as that's over, it's Republican unity. By being team players, the libertarians in NH accomplish more and more each year. Meanwhile libertarians nationally get less and less.
Massie is campaigning against the GOP so he can complete his revenge tour and say I told you so. Massie deserves no quarter. Massie is doing great evil. Worse he is putting his followers in a position where they have to do evil to defend him. Trump didn’t have an ultimatum where he had one red rose and had to decide between Massie OR Mike Johnson like an episode of the bachelor. Trump is the person at the center. Johnson is there because he wanted to work with Trump. Massie could have to. Instead of pretending Trump had no constraints or like he had to abandon the whole coalition just for him. There are other groups with a lot more support that could act the same way. If everybody did we would never get anywhere. He’s trying to sabotage the rights progress over his ego so he can blame the lefts ascent to power on not meeting his ridiculous demands.

Contra @NSKinsella , a high trust society is real…. and it’s spectacular. Trust in the foundation for capital accumulation, contracts, trade, division of labor, in fact all wealth. Economists are disastrously bad at showing us the Unseen: the value in things that cannot be measured or expressed by data, and the demand for intangibles like trust, tradition, comity, nostalgia, community.

I think the counter-argument is that nearly every ideology starts from a common place of wanting to make the world a better place. It's never been about "is this person evil" but rather "what epistemology is driving this assumption, and how does that harden into institutions in reality." Marx for instance insisted he discovered a scientific law of predicting reality in historical materialism. But note that particular epistemology restricts debate (you can't debate an axiom), which also leads to impacting how leadership is organized (you can't admit non-Marxists or dissidents because they aren't aligned with the axiom), which inevitably results in the one-party gulag state. Even though the original ideology, like all other ideologies, promised rainbows and unicorns. EA makes pretty strong assumptions about the ends justifying the means, and like Marxism, also on who possesses superior knowledge. And even more worrisome, they embed presently-unfalsifiable assumptions about optimizing for the future good. I think it's very clear that any institutional output would be something horrendous.

I love how exposed Anthropics playbook is. Regulatory capture like this used to work on Americans. All Upton Sinclair had to do was write a fictional book about rats in the ground beef and we handed our food supply to a cartel. No one is buying safetyism as an excuse for control anymore.
Anthropic marketing: we trained a tiger to hunt people and put it in a chicken-wire cage in the mall. Unexpectedly, it broke out and mauled a janitor and two lawyers. Please hire us to fight the National Tiger Emergency

Derek has the right take on this. Shifting tax money (that’s already allocated) to better recipients feels like a nothing burger. It’s another case of needing to operate the machinery of government that exists. It’s not some new expansive Republican socialist project. I don’t have any faith rewarding two parent homes will help the birth rate in any serious way. I also don’t care because I’m focused on the things that would help, like destroying the leftists education system that’s failing to develop skills or independence. To do that we need the GOP to continue winning and continue getting better. It reminds me of the tariff debate where all the smartest people in the world were suddenly unable to recognize that tariffs were not happening in isolation, but replacing other taxes. So they freaked out over what turned out to be a good policy decision as tariffs negotiations led to lower foreign rates while encouraging domestic investment. Tax shifts or benefit shifts alone won’t save us or kill us, it’s not really the biggest deal but as part of a complementary set of policies it can be helpful or at the very least is certainly nothing to cry or vote Dem about.
If the Trump administration does nothing and allows this money to be sent to single mothers in inner cities and immigrants with fake kids? That's protecting individual liberty. If they send that money to families with a stay at home parent instead? Literally socialism.

Normal person: “I like JD” X user: I see you haven’t been following me online? Postliberals don’t believe in original sin. Only liberals do. Classical liberals. Normal person: What? X user: Being a conservative means believing in liberalism. Normal person: Huh? X user: You see, the common good people are Christian Nationalists Normal person: Who? I thought you said they didn’t believe in original sin X user: You need to understand, a tariff is Woke Right, it’s about us vs, them, which is Third Worldism, inspired by a Nazi jurist, which is Communism. JD Vance is a Nazi Communist who doesn’t believe in Original Sin is what I’m saying. Normal person: You’re having a stroke, I will call a doctor. X user: Hang on, let me show you this James Lindsay tweet about the St Michael prayer.

Vance is correct, you don’t fix things with free market slogans but by making people’s lives better. Most people don’t care about freedom. Only 10% of the population prioritizes it psychologically as an end in itself, and rightfully so. Liberty doesn’t matter if you’re dead or your culture is destroyed. If you want free markets you have to show people how free markets result in the things they value, then they will identify free market values as a necessary part of their core values. Love trees? Innovation helps the environment. (Care/harm) Re-industrialization makes us safe from foreign threats. (Authority/subversion) Licensing reform gives poor kids more opportunity. (Fairness/cheating) Opportunities to adopt responsibility creates positive forward momentum that helps us beat nihilism and restore our culture. (Sanctity/degradation) If Vance just sells liberty no one will listen. If he explains how his polices (which are much more libertarian) address people’s core concerns then they will. The left gets this. That’s why they are always pretending they have the solution to everything even though their ideas lead to the exact opposite outcome. We are too robotically rational to appeal to a real living emotion, even though our ideas actually work! Also liberty isn’t the answer to everything in every circumstance, especially when we don’t live in anything approximating a free society or world. If it was that easy to have the right answer anybody could govern, and yes someone has to govern. That’s what it means to say slogans aren’t enough.
Seeing a bunch of anti-Vance people calling him a “socialist” for what he said here. I have yet to hear any of them actually name a SINGLE policy Vance proposes that is “socialist.” I think they’re just mad that he’s calling out how politically inept they’ve been for 60 years.

Yes, repeal the 17th. But you also have to drastically expand the size of the House. The Executive, Senate, and House make a three-legged stool of Aristotelian governance. Monarchy, aristocracy, and democracy can work well, but only when they check each other.
The 17th Amendment Broke the Founders' Kill Switch It didn't just change the mode of electing senators, it destroyed a constitutional nuclear option - the "absolute safeguard" for the states that the government-run schools don't teach LIVE 9:30a PT Wed youtube.com/watch?v=ZczLUEBE…

There are three types of people who get mad when you point out Hitler was a socialist leftist. The people who like Hitler and claim he’s actually based and right wing. The people who think Trump is Hitler and want to call the right Nazis as a smear. And then the ones who think you sound like a triggered libertarian calling Trump and everything that moves socialist. The problem with all that is Hitler massively expanded government, to historic levels in Germany. Trump reduced bureaucracy for the first time in over a century. So if you think calling Hitler a socialist is as juvenile or reductionist as calling Trump a socialist then that proves you think Trump is Hitler, which is retarded. It’s not at all the same because they are nothing alike. Hitler moved things to the left at rapid pace. Trump is moving things to the right.

Your grandparents worked hard but didn’t have to chase yield. Monetary hedonism on the part of central banks has made getting ahead via simple thrift almost impossible today. This devolution filters through society at every level, with deeply negative cultural and moral dimensions.
Most people have never heard of the grandfather index. @jeffdeist introduced the concept in a recent speech. Take the savings rate available to average people and subtract real inflation. If that number is negative, ordinary people who save responsibly are getting poorer without doing anything wrong. His argument is that today’s number is significantly negative right now. And that’s not only an economic observation, but a moral one. Watch here: youtube.com/watch?v=LvHjZSTm…

leftists will say things like "data centers dont create real jobs" because they hate blue collar workers, hate middle america, and don't care about the working class. xitter.gq/saeverley/status/20857…
"Data centers don't create real jobs," they say. Except for the hundreds of thousands of electricians, plumbers, and welders that are needed to build them.

With some very minor exceptions, the data center buildout is happening in red states (historically some purple but on a go forward basis, red). The data center question is entirely a red on red issue. It’s impossible to build in blues and power is expensive, hence no one is even planning to build there 🚨this is why the left is poisoning the well on datacenters 🚨 They have nothing at stake. Nothing to gain, nothing to lose. They will run the Greta / fracking playbook on DCs. The right must avoid being useful idiots for the left and China at all costs. By all means, debate the merit of the DC buildout. But don’t fall into the slopulist trap of being against them “because everyone is” or because the left manufactures consent via the press and NGOs. The left is not participating in the DC buildout; they should not have a seat at the table. Assume that they will try to play spoiler to ruin what is a massive reindustrialization opportunity in Americas heartland, creating skilled jobs that have been missing for so long. It’s entirely rational for the left to ruin this for red America. Don’t let them.

Yes, ironically the more important an industry the easier it is for the government to fear monger into taking it over. That’s why nose jobs get cheaper and better every year, but getting your gallbladder removed will cost you your life insurance.

We’ve had 89.9% inflation since 2000 Hospital prices have gone up 271.1% The easiest way to tell inflation isn’t the main factor in rising costs is to break it down by industry. A couple industries are outpacing inflation and lowering prices regardless. Others (especially heavily regulated ones) are tripling inflation increases. That doesn’t mean it’s not important to get inflation under control, which we already have to a degree. But we’re not gonna wipe out the debt instantly. In the meantime maybe drastically reviving our industry, allowing competition in healthcare, lowering costs and creating all sorts of fun new opportunities will help us do that.
