Before Greek influence, no European people produced a sustained body of literature or philosophy in their own languages.
No manuscripts. No named philosophers, because the limits of their language were the limits of their world.
Meanwhile, the Greeks had already produced an endless list of names from the Pre-Socratic age alone, and only once Europe adopted the Greek alphabet did it begin to do the same.

One way to get to know a person is by looking at their bookshelf.
With so many new followers, I would like to introduce myself with my books (most of them at least).
I have not read them all, but I’m working on it!
The list of books can be found on my site: teddyrookbook.com/books/

when Rome was sacked, most people living in the Roman Empire didn't notice much of a difference in their daily lives
the farmers kept farming, the merchants kept trading, the normies kept norming. life went on
Rome still fell
the fact that you can walk down your street and get a croissant doesn't tell you much about the state of your civilization
but it tells a lot about you
