Most AI headlines are about fear: data centers, job loss, superintelligence gone wrong. But good things are happening too, and almost nobody hears about them.
So we started a Substack to tell those stories.

St. Jude released MyGPT, a free AI helper that answers from your own documents, shows where each answer came from, and can run with no internet. That could help clinics far from big cities use AI and keep patient data private.

Canada's national wildfire hazard map took more than a year to make.
A free AI tool from Mila and Natural Resources Canada can do the same kind of work in about 2 to 11 hours, Mila says.

We are going to see ALLOT of this kind of performative hysteria going into the election. If you’re filming yourself crying don’t expect to be treated seriously.

Microsoft's AI got the right diagnosis on 83% of hard cases from the New England Journal of Medicine. General doctors using books and the web got 36%.

David Friedberg: France’s Crisis Is a Warning for America
“France is a bellwether for the West.
So take a look at this chart. This chart is a measure of public spending as a percent of GDP.
And you can see the comparison of France's public spending as a % of GDP to the peak public spending as a % of GDP of major communist nations.”
@Chamath:
“So do you think France is a communist state? They spend like it.”
@Jason:
“Well, it's certainly been a socialist state, right?”
Chamath:
“Is it working?”
@Friedberg:
“That's my point. And I think this is such a prescient lesson for the West to look at.
We all think that there's some political problem with Macron or whoever it was.
The more the government spends, the worse the conditions get for its people, not the opposite, and then the people riot and revolt.
Take a guess where the US is today. US public spending is roughly 36% of GDP. France today is operating its national government spending deficit is 5.4% of GDP. The US is actually 6.2% of GDP.
France is, I think, probably the first to go because they're only growing their economy at half a percent while the US is growing at 2.3%.
So we're still kind of hanging on because we have some degree of economic growth that's allowing us to kind of hold things together.
But I would argue that we are facing the same sort of fiscal cliff which leads to this extraordinary social unrest as France.
All the economic measures are aligned, we're at the same rate, we're at the same set of problems, and we're starting to see the cracks in the system.
There's probably a multi-year solution.”
David Friedberg reveals France's public spending is 57% of GDP: greater than that of communist countries
"This chart is a measure of public spending as a percent of GDP; Rand Group Research published it. And you can see the comparison of France's public spending as a percent of GDP, to the peak public spending as a percent of GDP of major communist nations, Soviet Union during, communist Romania, Venezuela under Chavez, and then communist China."
"It certainly been a socialist state, right? That's my point. I think this is such a precious lesson for the West to look at. We all think that there's some political problem with Macron or whoever it was."
"The more the government spends, the worse the conditions get for its people, not the opposite. And then the people riot and revolt and say that the government's not spending enough and the government needs to be doing more."
"Take a guess where the US is today. Federal government spending is $7.4 trillion, state and local government spending is $4.6 trillion. You add those two together, it's $12 trillion out of a $33 trillion GDP. US public spending is roughly 36% of GDP. France today is the same as the US, it's about 120% debt to GDP."

What does it mean to be human in the age of AI?
Dr. Russell Moore joins Mike Cosper for a conversation about the soul, the image of God, and what happens when machines can imitate more of what we do.
In this episode:
• Why intelligence isn’t the same as personhood
• How AI companions could change our relationships and us
• Finding purpose when AI can do your job
• Why a convincing sermon isn’t the same as being there for someone
Fear Not explores faith and Superintelligence: how people of faith can face a changing world with wisdom rather than panic.
Watch the full conversation below.

Your ability to learn matters more than your job title in the age of AI.
@MikeCosper "We spent fifteen years telling people, “Learn to code, learn to code, learn to code.” And now the most important thing in the world is, hey, we actually need people who understand the human experience and know how to articulate it.
@drmoore "I said to a young person not long ago, I said, “Look, we’re coming into a time where what’s going to be needed is adaptability.”
Don’t think of yourself as an accountant. Think of yourself as somebody who has the skill and discipline to be able to learn accounting. And you don’t know what ten years from now you’re going to be called upon to do, but you’re the kind of person who has known how to do this.
And you can build upon those skills and be adaptable."
Oh no. Tom was a super kind and generous person. He will be missed.
