Giving American citizenship to people who refuse to learn English is a betrayal of what citizenship is supposed to mean. Citizenship isn't supposed to be a participation trophy or a welfare enrollment form. It's a commitment. It means you want to be part of this country, understand its laws, vote on its future, talk to your neighbors, and contribute. How can you do any of that if you won't even learn the language the country runs on? For generations, people came here and busted their ass to learn English because they wanted to be American. Now we have a system that tells them that was for nothing. We have carved out so many exemptions, loopholes, and lowered standards that the English test is a joke. You get one easy sentence to read, one easy sentence to write, and if you fail you get to come back and try again. And what message does it send? That you don't have to adapt to America, America has to adapt to you. That you can live here for decades, collect benefits funded by taxpayers who do speak English, use a translator at the DMV, at the hospital, at your citizenship interview, and still demand the same rights as someone who did the work. It's devaluation, pure and simple. When you give citizenship to anyone who wants it regardless of effort, you devalue it for everyone who earned it. It stops being a privilege and starts being paperwork. If you want to be an American citizen, act like it. Learn the language.
