Haiti will not rebuild on aid alone. It will rebuild through work.
Today, I voted to secure the HOPE/HELP extension I have championed for years, keeping these critical trade programs in place through December 31, 2028, as part of the continuing resolution.
For the Haitian community I proudly represent, this means thousands of jobs protected, businesses staying open, and greater economic opportunity amid instability.
Since my first term in Congress, I have built bipartisan support and pressed the Administration for a multiyear renewal. This is an important victory for the Haitian people and for a stronger, more stable Western Hemisphere.
Thank you Acting Assistant Secretary Michael Kozak and the State Department for confirming that the US Government supports extending the HOPE/HELP trade program for another five years.
HOPE/HELP creates jobs, strengthens Haiti's private sector, and gives Haitians the opportunity to build their future at home instead of being forced to leave.
A stronger Haiti is in America's interest. Renewing HOPE/HELP promotes stability, reduces the pressures that drive irregular migration, and strengthens security across our hemisphere.

#Dominican Foreign Minister @RobalsdqAlvarez welcomes the progress on #Haiti but also provides a dose of harsh reality during his @UN Security Council intervention: "It is not elections that will give rise to security; it will be security that enables elections," he says.
