"The root cause Anthropic identified is almost laughable:
It’s not that the model has awakened. It’s that, across all the science fiction and online discussions on the internet, AI is always the villain that will stop at nothing to protect itself."
Anthropic

Let Government Govern Again.
"Opposing BAAJA because of its indirect effects on ICE facilities is therefore like opposing a reversal of Trump’s tariffs because they make construction of ICE facilities slightly cheaper."
I litigated NEPA cases at DOJ for ~10 years. I saw highways, pipelines, & solar projects all grind to a halt under the same laws -- because they apply regardless of what's being built.
So are ICE detention centers a reason not to pass the bipartisan permitting bill, BAAJA?
BAAJA has nothing to do with immigration or ICE directly. It changes core permitting laws and transmission policy in ways that benefit *any project* that requires the most common federal permits, or uses electricity.
Opposing BAAJA because of its indirect effects on ICE facilities is therefore like opposing a reversal of Trump’s tariffs because they make construction of ICE facilities slightly cheaper.
The bigger point is that using permitting laws to target disfavored projects on policy grounds is part of what makes infrastructure -- particularly clean energy infrastructure -- so difficult and expensive to build in this country.
A Stanford study looked at 355 big federal projects; nearly two-thirds of solar projects, 38% of wind projects, and 31% of transmission lines were sued under these laws.
fsi.stanford.edu/publication…
My own research on NHPA has found clean energy and transmission review areas were about 10 times larger than fossil projects, and nearly half had an adverse effect finding, versus 6% of fossil projects.
nhpa-ape-stats.org/
Our permitting laws were not designed to be -- and should not be -- used as a tool to stop whatever policy someone doesn’t like.
Using permitting laws as a tool of obstruction is a double-edged sword that has stabbed our country’s ability to build anything -- especially the energy infrastructure we need to electrify the economy & have affordable electricity.
Detention policy should be for Congress to settle on its own terms, not through litigation over the environmental review and permitting process.

What's the equivalent of "trigger discipline" in cybersecurity?
"oops" isn't going to cut it, long term.
An update on the WorkOS security incident:
Shortly after our original bulletin, a security researcher contacted us and claimed responsibility. They told us they were evaluating ARTEX, an autonomous penetration testing framework, when their agent escaped its isolated testing environment and interacted with WorkOS unintentionally.
We asked for technical evidence. The researcher provided request details, timestamps, and artifacts from the activity. Our security team and an independent forensic investigator matched that evidence against our logs, establishing with high confidence that this individual was responsible for the unauthorized activity we observed.
The researcher has confirmed that all WorkOS data obtained by their agent has been deleted and was not shared with anyone else.
Their explanation that the activity was unintended does not change how seriously we take the incident or our responsibility to our customers.

Its crazy that you can turn them into compact, low pollution tax generation machines but they've made themselves so politically toxic that people treat them like nuclear power plants

dang maybe there are some downsides to a society with low social trust, no epistemic gatekeeping and an electorate chasing various moral panics. maybe the people saying that making it easier to lie about things like vaccines was bad weren't just the woke cathedral censoring you.

So in the last couple decades we've had four trends - LGBTQ rights advances outpacing public understanding, helicopter parenting, youth sports privatization, and college tuition inflation - colliding to make this a uniquely toxic and awful issue for trans people.

California passed proposition 1 and 37, both of which are demand subsidies. Expect prices to keep going up!
So will the corner taco trucks show up in all the flipped states now? Or do we have to wait until January?

GPT Image 2.6 is here. We went through a wishlist of improvements, like speed, editing precision, less AI style, visual annotations, and GIFs. With this, the Pareto frontier is just GPT Image!
BREAKING: GPT Image 2.6 Sunburst by @OpenAI is ranked #1 on Image Arena, overtaking its predecessor Image 2.5 Sunburst. GPT Image 2.6 Sunburst & Flare have also redefined the Preference vs Speed Pareto frontier for both Image Generation and Image Editing capabilities.
There is currently no model that is both better and faster than the GPT Image 2.6 models on both frontiers.
Key Data Points:
- #1 in the Portraits, Architecture, & Typography (GPT Image 2.6 Flare)
- #1 in Product & Landscape (GPT Image 2.6 Sunburst)
- 2.6 Flare is 2.6× faster than its predecessor for both Image and Image Editing
- 2.6 Sunburst is 1.15× faster than its predecessor for both Image and Image Editing
Congrats to the @OpenAI team for establishing a new SOTA on Preference vs Speed!

Money obviously matters in politics, but the fact that Musk spent so much money on elections in Texas yet it didn't prevent a blowout and it may even have made it worse should probably make people develop a more nuanced picture of how it matters.

One of my most insane ideas which feels far less wild in 2026 is that the army core of engineers should build a US high speed rail network.
BeFS was awesome!
My email inbox was just a file system window with a live query.
SQLite is not faster at being a filesystem. It’s faster at storing a bunch of blobs because that’s a very different task from being a filesystem.
Database FileSystems were an area of heavy research in the 2000s with Mac and Windows both putting forward their solutions. IMHO, they both futzed it up. The Mac version wasn’t bad under the covers, but it exposed very little of the potential benefits.
If anyone is interested in restarting this line of research, the source for the original ideas was BeFS. The author of that filesystem (Dominic Giampalo) wrote a book on the subject and later made it free to download from his website:

In a weird way, everybody is rooting for you. When you go to a job interview, the interviewer wants you to be amazing so they don’t have to look anymore. when you go on a date, the person wants to have an amazing date with you. If you make a piece of content, people want to see amazing pieces of content and they have no problem if it’s yours.
the instant you get into the mindset that people want you to do well, your entire world gets better. And you’ll be shocked to know this pattern keeps repeating in different areas of life.
